I don't think flushing actually gets nutes out of the buds. It just helps the plant use them up

Agreed-I think that 'flushing' is more removing nutrients from medium than purging the plant.

Yes taking the nutes out of the medium is why we flush, then the plant will use up whatever it has stored.
