This is my 3rd grow. Previous grows were in the summer, so I had high humidity issues. It is now winter, so I have low humidity issues. I had two plants I cut down about a week apart. I then put both in the grow tent hanging upside down with the exhaust on low and a humidifier just outside the tent. Readings at plant level were around 68F and 42-51%RH.
This room is about 66-70F, humidity around 25%. Humidifier is not strong enough to add moisture to the air, so I had it just outside the tent which worked for the grow/dry phase to get the RH up. Each plant produced 1qt jar and 1 pint jar when 4/5 full.
I usually play it safe here and jar a bit early, since I can always dry longer, but can't add moisture. I put Plant 1 into jars when dry to the touch, and the humidity was quite low around 45-50 in the jar. After 12 hrs, it jumped up to 76/78%. Great - I took them out, let air for 2-4 hours, put them back in. Dropped back to 52/53%. Very, very slowly crept back up to 70. This batch is going fine. Now it's around 68 with daily airings.
Plant 2 seems different. I also jarred it when the buds were dry (5 days drying) on the outside (on 2/24/19), stems definitely couldn't snap. After 16 hours (this morning), they were still around 56%. I burped them for maybe 10 minutes and resealed. Now about 6 hour later, they are around 53 and 55. But, to the touch, they don't seem brittle or overdried.
My thought was the air in the jar before putting bud in is probably around 25% RH, so for the bud to bring it all the way to 65-70 could take a while, like with my first plant. Now I am not so sure. I've read they will still cure, just more slowly. When is a reasonable time in these conditions to know my readings are accurate? Should I go 24 hours without burping even though I am only 1 day in? I know they need fresh air daily but perhaps not until they lose more moisture? I have some Boveda 62 I can add if they don't seem to be getting higher in RH, but wanted some input. Thanks!
