Hey all,

I've attached a pic of my potential Germination station. Those light bulbs are 40W Daylight CLF'S. This is just a rough draft of what its gonna look like, so if y'all could help me fill in the rest of this equation, it would be immensely appreciated. More Lights

I still have to order some Rapid rooters, Fox farm soil, Kind soil (Organic SON!!). After two weeks or so, these pups will go outside into a greenhouse.

I've used those same fixtures. Many of us have I'm sure. I found that they just fit the inside of a 5gal round bucket. That's worked great for me in the past. For multiple sprouts I usually use floro tubes.
 
i baked my first round of seeds using something similar, so i would just say be sure you've got a reliable way to measure inside temps... otherwise looks real sweet!
 
That's the type of info I need. Was it the proximity of the lights to your plants? There's a thermometer in the bottom left half of the pic, will that suffice?
 
i saw that thermometer and it looks too big to me to fit inside those cups but i can't tell for sure. i had the light about 8 inches away but i had them inside a crock pot, not turned on, obvs, put the lid on it and put the light 8 in from top of lid (clear pyrex glass) so that the light would create heat which would then create humidity inside pot....

or at least that was the idea ;)..... the humidity got so high that it mucked up my little acurite temp/humidity monitor, which i didn't know until it was too late. in fact, i had to take the back off and let it dry out to get it back to working.

so i guess what i was saying w/my original comment was "if in doubt, watch out for/err on the side of too little heat than too much" bc the humidity will/should take care of the "warmth" factor, (given of course an adequate heat source).
 
I'm so glad you mentioned to read that tutorial. I'll be sure to read the HELL out that tutorial. And also thank you for putting me up on game about the clear cups. I should've known better, but I made the typical rookie mistake of trying to experiment. Luckily, you caught it before I fouled up.

How are you able to tell that your roots hit the bottom of the cup? I know I'm hounding you with questions, but I can tell your full of knowledge.

So for the first few weeks, they wont need too much light, am I understanding that correctly?
 
Dude I use my own technique.........it's on my auto onyx from seedsman thread....I've had good results with it.....I have no idea how to post a link sorry dude 😂😂🌱🌿🌲
 
Germinate your seeds in a wet towel inside a zipzock tell tap root pops then plant I've tried all kinda of ways to sprout my seeds but this is the only one id say I have a 99% success rate with useing the paper towel and zip lock bag on my DVR or under CFLs just throwing that out there
 
Your going to need a fan to desperce heat and to make seedling stems stronger,just gently over the top of them,don't leave humity dome on to long at least burp them two times a day if left to long mold will kill them.lol
 
really? Wet paper towel does better than rapid rooters? Full disclosure, I'm a nervous wreck over here. Lol, this is my first grow, so I'm on pins and needles.

How are you able to handle the seeds after the tap root has popped? I know that they're very delicate and aren't to be touched, so what method do you use to transfer them into your medium?
 
I use the same light fixtures, only I clipped them to clothes hanger, and hung it from a rope so I can adjust the height of all three at the same time like a real grow light on a ratchet. But I'm just using this in the "play pen", the corner of my study hanging from my drums with my seedlings and clones under them, on top of a medium bin with a warming pad (thermostat!) under them.

I've also noticed that a 2ft by 4 tube T5 seems to veg better than GalaxyHydro 300watt.
 
in answer to your last question about how to hand the delicate seedlings, first good job asking bc that is a CRITICAL point and they are SO delicate. believe me i know from having manhandled a couple...:( after that i learned to use a regular ol pair of tweezers and don't SMUSH. just barely hold it in the tweezers and, if you can, place the taproot pointing downwards...supposedly they are capable of righting themselves but i wouldn't chance it if i could help it....
