Dying Plants

Any advice on why my two bigger plants are really saggy? All night under the light they were looking healthy, once the light turned off they started to look like this and the soil is very moist.

They look fine, just going to bed for the night. They should wake back up and reach for the lights about the time when they come back on. Other than the droop, I think they look fine.

Just looks like light droop (Some strains really move their leaves up and down with the light).
Look at the picture of my little plants below. (excuse the animals and La Virgen I was having fun!). They are all very healthy little plants. The strain on the left droops a lot when the lights go out, but the strain on the right does not. Unless there is something else going on, you have nothing to worry about.

Yup they get tired too. Other than that just keep an eye on overwatering #1 cause of droop.

I'd say maybe they are a little overwatered.

BTW, I have my lights on 24/7 in veg and my plant never droops. Despite the folklore, plants, unlike people, don't need "rest." In fact, a time lapse camera shows that they never stop growing, 24 hours a day. (Of course they go to 12/12 for bloom.)

I've been meaning to ask if we had any plant biologists around what plants did during the night cycle? What, if anything, do they miss out on without darkness?

I have done enough research on this to say with confidence that C3 plants like Cannabis do not require a dark period during vegetative growth. There is a "Calvin cycle" with the misnomer "dark cycle", which does not require light, but which also does not require darkness.
Opinions in the grow community are intense on this subject, but there is no similar debate among plant scientists. It is settled science.
All that said, I still Veg'd mine 18/6 for two reasons. Viparspectra specifically advises against 24/0 use with their lights (for purposes of the lights not the plants). 2 I cannot stand LED light and wanted to be able to spend time in there. So I did not respect the darkness at all during Veg.

Cool, thanks for the excellent answer. I kept finding grower lore, not much science on that one.

And I hate the blurple as well. That's a huge reason I like t5 for veg.

Happy to share...
Things are different during the Flowering stage. Obviously, the plants need 12 hours of respected darkness to flip, but there is something else. From my understanding most of the cannabinoid production is powered by the Calvin cycle (which is in operation all the time your plant is alive) So it is being made 24/0 even when lights are on 12/12. The rub is that light appears to actually break down substances like THC. In some parts of the plant, the light breaks them down faster than the plant can make them. This is why many growers have found harvesting first thing in the morning results in stronger buds. It is also why some do 36 or more hours of dark before harvest. The theory there is that the plant will keep producing THC as long as it can and nothing degrades it. Finally, this is why I am not sure it is a good idea to run Autos 24/0 or even 18/6 till harvest. I have no experience with Autos so I refrain from directly commenting on that.
I plan to increase darkness to 14 hours for final weeks of Flower and do 24 hours dark before harvest.

Dood, even more excellence. Many thanks! That sounds great, but in my few grows, the tops are ready way earlier than the rest, and I end up with as much as a couple weeks in between.

Does the extended dark cause a disruption to the rest of the plant, or is it happy when it goes back to 12's?

Yes, extended darkness will disrupt the rest of the plant.
The Calvin cycle runs all the time, but it needs sugars and other chemicals (goodies) that are produced only when the lights are on. During light the plant stores a portion of these for use during the dark. This is how C3 plants have evolved to cope with darkness. When you put the plant into extended darkness you are forcing it to deplete its stored goodies. It will continue to power the Calvin cycle (and make THC) to stay alive as long as it can.
As they approach harvest, the only reason you need light is to keep the reservoirs of goodies supplied. As the Tops get close, you can consider going 10 light 14 dark, which is still plenty of light. If you harvest the tops early, just be sure to do so at the end of the dark period. When you are ready for final harvest you can do extended darkness.
Locrian just started another thread on this, so we can keep discussing there!

I was wondering why they droop every morning when the light comes off, the leaves feel tight and almost kinda dry? Should i water? The soil isn't 100% dry but its wet to the touch in the first 1in.

Don't do it! It's the classic fake!

It's the number one cause of over watering. You said that it's wet when you put your finger down there. It means she's happy. Sorry, but now you won't forget.
