I have been told about 2 hours before plant can suffer. These air pumps do not cost a lot so why not have a extra one OR TWO. If your pump goes out at 1am the air pump store will not open early. I am buying a extra one WITH BATTERY BACKUP. I DO NOT RECOMEND THE MC DONALDS SODA STRAW METHOUD (ie sticking a straw in your res. and blowing air bubbles.)
Great advice! I had never heard of the straw method. Humans breathe out CO2 and plant roots want oxygen so it seems like that might even make it worse! I completely agree it's a great idea to get an air pump with a battery backup! You never know when that will come in handy
I learned the hard way having a backup pump is a damn good investment lol. Make sure the tubing is secure. Mine popped off in the middle of the night, causing a flood in my tent and fried pumps from electrical short. Not only dangerous to your grow, but you and your home as well.
One of my dripper pumps got unplugged somehow (I blame the cat) a while back. I happened to catch it right before we left town for the weekend. Close one...
