Drying Questions

Is sticky the same as wet? My buds have been drying for five days. Humidity is steady at 65 for day and a half. The two identical pictures are five days apart. Shrank 75%. Looking for advice. I know y'all can't touch them but hopefully I've put enough information here for you to make an educated guess. Thank you in advance.

Sure is my friend. First sticky is not the same as wet. Sticky is very good. Means lot of oil. About the dying. Five days is fast but having lost 75% of its weight means could be ready to jar. Excellent way to keep track of moisture by the way. Now you can jar them and keep the jar open for a day or two moving them around few times a day just to make sure it's not too wet. Just if you think they get too moist. Maybe jar gen for a few hours and see how they feel. Maybe they could dry a day more. Or stay in the jars. Only trial and error works for curing

Yeah kinda what I thought too. I think I might continue drying the majority and jar one for a bit and see. I really want to get this right for the most of it I can. Thanks

Sticky...outside wet....inside. Looks like either one of your hygrometers will fit in a wide mouth jar, shoot for 62% RH. Skinny bud piss you off? Ya strung him up right good.

Howdy Jeg, I live in an area where the relative humidity is around 25%-35% (unless it is raining, we get, on average, 18 1/2" a year) most of the time so it usually takes only 3-4 days to dry my bud. My question is, why do You hang the buds in a bucket? does not this restrict the air circulation around the buds? Circulating air around the buds should help to speed up the drying. A cool (<65°), dark, and well ventilated area is the best to dry the buds in.
'Sticky' is a wonderful thing, I'm jealous!

Because I'm clueless probably. It seemed like a good place. It's vented at the bottom by me and the top is elevated. It stays at 74 degrees without AC and 68 with. I had mini fans in it when I was using it for growing but didn't think I'd want them blowing on buds. Humidity without bud inside can is 40 with hasn't gone above 70. I thought all that was decent. I'll go read more 😔😉

The bucket is a good idea if you don't want to dry too fast. I've done it a few ways and found just hanging them in the open is a bit fast. They dry better for me in a bit of an enclosure to keep some humidity around them. I like it!

A lot of advice intended for growers in 'normal' climates doesn't work very well for desert rats like us. Leave something out to dry and it may be mummified when you get back -- crunchy and harsh. I'm still figuring out the 'right' way, but toward the end it definitely needs to be done in several small steps. Burping those bottles or bags here is more like opening them just long enough to replace the wet air inside with a little fresh dry air.
