Dr Krippling Kripple Roulette Organic Grow in Soil

alltatup I was in Sainsbury`s earlier and I saw this old geezer buying a pack of Warburton`s crumpets. If I wasn`t waiting I`d have been tempted but I am thinking about my figure...obviously...but crumpets are very popular over here. I do suggest a try but proper crumpets, not dodgy muffin imitations

PaganRich I would love to eat an authentic crumpet, but alas!!! They don't have them in this backwards country...

Mesa: table in Spanish, but also refers to a flat top bit of land...

I lived atop a mesa (also called a caprock) in TX. Where I lived, it was flat as a bloody crumpet exterior.

I'd drive 20 mins. outside of town to where the caprock dropped off into canyons. It was the only pretty thing around.

PaganRich It was really quite beautiful. I'd go drive outside of town and then get to the place where the caprock falls off, and the mesquite trees were growing everywhere, and in the summertime, the skinny male tarantulas would be crossing the road in droves to find the fat females. I would see lots of horned toads (which are really a type of reptile; I got such a kick out of them. And TUMBLEWEEDS everwhere in the fall!! Yep, it's the wild west, that's for sure...

Canuck147 I am rather taken with Bakewell Tarts at the moment mate and fruit cake but the very dense, heavy kind that feels like you`ve just eaten a brick...and hot cross buns with melted butter but scones, jam, butter and cream is something else. alltatup & Canuck I am a tad partial to scones with jam and cream, not fussed about the butter-keep it healthy is what I say-and a nice cuppa...can`t go wrong unless the cream`s off which happens more often than you`d think. Me and my mate once suffered after hitting what looked like an alright tea rooms in Glastonbury...interesting 24 hrs afterwards that was for sure...apart from the screaming, shouting and religious expletives

Now your talking PaganRich!

I had to help my mrs finish off a pizza yesterday then got hit with a deal I just couldn't turn down at Krispy Kreme. Selected 12 donuts and got another 12 donuts for a quid.

Needless to say I have diabetes now. I do love a scone with cream and jam though!

Peebz My fav at the moment are 2 eggs, chips, beans and fried bread, minstrels, hola hoops, lots of Wispa bars and Sainbury`s Belguim Triple Choc Biscuits. Another 12 for a quid is a bargain...jam or something else inside? alltatup is learning the complexities of the British eating preferences. I think she`s surprised anyone can function after some of the stuff we eat but I say pizza gives you fibre and your 5 veg or fruit a day plus protein so it`s a win win. Things are looking a tad chilly your way mate. They`re talking snow

alltatup Scones aren`t bread lass...you really are a country of cultural food Philistines, no offence intended...here`s a description-`Scone. A scone is a British baked good, usually made of wheat, or oatmeal with baking powder as a leavening agent and baked on sheet pans. ... The scone is a basic component of the cream tea or Devonshire tea. It differs from teacakes and other types of sweets that are made with yeast`.....now, in fairness this may not be an American fancy but if you do find them then strawberry jam, at a pinch raspberry-though that would be commented upon- is the jam of choice. I can`t believe the state of affairs over there, muffins confused as crumpets, a lack of appreciation for the humble cream tea. Where will it end I wonder. I s`ppose you`ve never tried jellied eels, cockles or winkles. Winkles are those small water snails where you flick the lid off the shell, stab the dead snail with a needle, pull it from it`s shell and eat it with brown bread and butter and a dash of vinegar...you need to eat a lot to feel full and now with heavy metals in the food chain you`d need to source them carefully but they are an interesting experience. Peebz could wax lyrical on the health benefits of haggis and then there`s the porridge drawer of old. Builds character and an iron guts constitution does the great British diet. Take Peebz, raised in the storm tossed lands of the freezing far North where sunshine is often a distant memory. Does he allow this to get him down. Nope, he fortifies himself with 24 doughnuts...fibre and fruit-now that`s just plain healthy. Okay, he probably didn`t eat 24 in one go-obviously he had to share them but I don`t doubt that if challenged, that man could do it. He may feel slightly queasy after but he could do it

PaganRich That's it: you've gone beyond the pale, and you must be held accountable. There are scones over here, but I never did care for them--too crumbly and dry. As for all the other animals you mention as food, and parts of animals like blood and intestine, I can only respond: I'll take some good Chinese food any day of the week. No offense to you and Peebz , and while the sun never used to set upon the British empire, it's better to eat British food in a poorly-lit place or blindfolded.

If you eat too much white flour, you are prone to the delusion that you are more "civilized" than your erstwhile colonies to the west. Scientific research clearly demonstrates that white flour leads to delusional thinking--the classic example is poor Oliver Twist asking for more gooey gruel.

White flour contains no fiber, pagan: the fiber's been stripped away, and all that's left is the gloppy, gummy gluten, considered glorious by gluttonous gourmands, but ghastly for the gut.

alltatup May I compliment you on how well you put that together and I loved `ghastly for the guts`. That was very good but I honestly think that if you were in a front line of Cumberland`s forces at Culloden facing a charge from the Macdonald regiments of Clanranald and Keppoch you might wish for something a bit more bowel steadying like steak and chips with a nice pint rather than say Egg Foo Yung and Egg Fried Rice with prawn crackers-though the prawn crackers would be alright being cooked in lard-for breakfast (Probably only meal for a bit).

Whew!!!!! PaganRich I thought you might never speak to me again. I thought I might have pushed the limit too far the way I insulted your victuals. But no: you came right back for more.

Well, I never would have fought for Cumberland; I would have burned my draft card. I would have been on the side of the Indians in the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Had I survived, I would have eaten raita, chiken tika masala, palak paneer, biriani, a little nan, and anything else that had lentils in it. I'm getting the feeling that we could burn each other at the stake, but neither one of us would convert...

alltatup that's exactly why you need some whipped cream and jam on them. Even better with butter as well. Devilish beasts to eat on their own. But a fresh warm one with all of the above on it 👌👌 now your talking.

Yes, haggis is a Scottish delicacy much like black pudding, made with sheep intestines. both on a roll (bun) with bacon and sausage and tomato sauce for breakfast is the business.

Ps, I only have 5 donuts left.
