Diy broken led panel fix

Couldn't help myself...got these two w/ shipping about $50. Don't really even need both of them but will find a use I'm sure, or sell it if I can. Excited to see what viparspectra has inside. Had a hard time finding any if these that were broke, good news for all you viparspectra users. A lot of kind and advanced Platinum though. Of course plenty of Mars 300s, galaxies, and the cheaper no name brand ones. Which is what the white one is, it does has morsen drivers in it.

I'll probably put about $250 into parts and such. A steal in my book considering the light output I get in return.

Done..... Two more lights. Viparspectra will be more of a small flower light and the cheapo light will be for the veg room. It could also flower as well because of the lower color. Right now I'm covering an 8x5.5 area with 400 watts roughly and no issues. In fact I think they love the amount of light they are getting.
ill post my stats for these later. I will need a little guidance from DANGERDAN for the viparspectra since the mono numbers need some converting first.

Viparspectra - 4 cxb 3590 36v 3000k, 2 far red cree monos 3v 720-740 nm, 4 royal blue cree monos 3v 440-455 nm, 6 red cree monos 3v 620-630 nm.

Cheapo - 6 Vero 29 gen7 36v 3500 k, 12 warm white (3500k) cree monos 3v, 9 cool white (6500k) luxeon rebel es monos 3v.

Parts were closer to $350 but some of that material like wire, wago connector, thermal tape are for other my last build. It will be a 4x4 with 44 2 ft Samsung lm561c diode strips for flower. It should end up using about 470 watts. Cover a 5x5 or 6x6, depends on the application.

Nice work :)

Cant convert monochromatic light sources, too many variables as the sensitivity changes heavily with different wavelengths. There may be conversion formulas available for different wavelengths for photometry to quantum units. But i do not know of any. I had a quick look online too and could not find anything either.

Just realising we are the only ones posting in this thread, where are the peeps at... this is good stuff here. 😅

Keep it up anyway, such a good idea to reuse or even just improve on cheap fixtures.

Viparspectra specs....
original light used 136+/-3% watts, new numbers equal about 115 watts used. Since I can't convert the monos over for a uniform number I'll list each color and the specs.
4 cxb3590 ppf about 1.5 umol/watt; cxb3070 would have been a little more efficient.
Red monos x6- 620-630 nm, minimum ppf 2.10 umol/S, minimum luminous flux @ .7 mA is 161 per mono.
Royal blue monos x4- 440-455 nm, minimum ppf 2.77 umol/S, minimum radiant flux @ .7 mA is 1460 mW
Far red monos x2- 720-740 nm, minimum radiant flux @ .7 mA is 500 mW

This is way past cool. A little over my head. Hard to wrap my head around some of the information while my brain is fuzzy from chasing 4 kids around all the time.(lack of sleep).
But I can assure you I'd be figuring it out real quick if my light quite working .

Cool stuff RosettaStoned keep it up my friend. I dig it.

Thanks Californiakid
4 kids, whoa! Yeah I'd be tired too. I have no kids, probably could tell since my money goes else where 😂 if I can do it I would think most people can. I'm not the sharpest tool in the box for sure.... especially in the book learnin'
I bet a Kind would make a great fixer upper but most want too much for a broken one. If I had one it would be cost effective but I can't spend $250 on a broken one and then dump another $100-150.

Just stumbled over here. I picked up a homemade light that I don’t no much about.. Now I’m really curious about it and want to take a look inside.. When I get back home in a couple days and break it open I’m sure I’ll have some questions to post here. These LEDs are tricky and I’d like to find the right one for my setup; including how to use it properly w/o burn and w the optimal quality/amount of light.

MajorTom, I got to see DB several times, what a blessing, But my favorite of all times was in 1972, When He and the Spiders from Mars played in Memphis, I still get chill bumps thinking about that concert. Totally awesome my friend. MickRonson could rip a guitar !!!

Always a favorite.. that must have been great, concerts in the 70’s were in a whole different league. I didn’t get to see him until 82 w Golden Earring. Good concert but by then things we’re settling down a bit.

I am definitely not the authority on lights (or anything for that matter) by any means.... But would gladly give some help or tips. Trouble shooting if need be. DANGERDAN had the knowledge about light. You might want to read his many fabulous articles. It's a lot to take in and some theories/concepts can be a bit confusing at times...for me at least.

Pretty funny. I just took Barbie to the spa in our bathroom sink with a 5 yr old daughter who’s mom was four in 1982. Life is pretty strange. :)
