DE in soil?

Anybody have an opinion on using freshwater food-grade diatomaceous earth in their soil as a safeguard for pests?
From what I’ve read it seems to help with many soil pest problems. So it got me thinkin: why not just always mix a little in your soil when you get a week or two into veg? Maybe has adverse effects or something?

Ain't a thing wrong with DE. Premixing with your medium is way preferrable to not.
I didn't know there were fresh and salt water varieties. Can't imagine the difference.

From what I have read about DE, it is not effective when wet, but it will not harm your girls, in fact they will eat it.

Use it as a top layer to help with bugs. It cuts through the exoskeleton for a gruesome death. It has to be dry to work for pest control. So If you mix it in the soil it counts for calcium but wont help with bugs.

De does work but has to be dry. Somewhat effective for things like fungus gnats but mosquito dunks are much more effective.
