Has anyone tried this bulb (detailed in subject line) out?DrPhoton any input? I’m thinking about switching out my DE 600w MH/HPS for this bulb.
I’m guessing I will see increased oil production, faster veg growth, but a decrease in overall yield of dried smokable flowers?
Hmmm. I read that UV-a and UV-b are more abundant with the CMH bulb’s spectrum. My goal was to increase resin production with out adding any more additional lighting fixtures. Do you think a CMH maintains a better spectrum for growing in general?
Theres practically no UV with CMH. This is because the material used (ceramic) compared to the quartz jacket in metal halide. Appears to filter this band of energy. All measurements so far with CMH have shown no UV output by CMH. This is again another myth in the horticulture industry. I explain this in thr section on CMH in my article on light technologies.
The spectrum quality is about the same as metal halide. Your not going to see any real difference here. During flowering, spectrum does not matter.

Now I heard you say spectrum doesn’t matter in flower. Is tric production not a response to UV? Because in the last 2 weeks of flower, I switch to MH and the trics seem to improve over flowering all the way through with HPS. Any thoughts?
So UV light is a form of ionizing electromagnetic radiation. If the plant responds to the ionization of the atoms, the visible light must be too long of a wavelength to get the same reaction? UV having a shorter wavelength is what causes this response in plants?
A photomorphological response is one where the plant contains a photoreceptor that uses light information to generate growth patterns that are determined by their genetics. UV is not a wavelength that plants use or have photoreceptors for, but the damage occurred by ionizing radiation generates genetic responses to combat this physical problem.

So it seems like I would be better off getting one of those UV lights that go in the T5HO fixture. I got a few of those fixtures laying around somewhere.
Maybe add that as wall side lighting?

Is there a specific distance the plants need to be away from that UV bulb?
And how many hours per day should I stress them with that type of wavelength, I’m thinking 3-4?
Its typically used in the last 2-3 weeks as it has been known to reduce the photosynthesis in leaves. And so you must find a balance between resin production and yield. As how long you use UV for will affect both. Some products are either made for or recommended by manufacturers for cannabis and so should look for those that do. As they will likely produce the wavelength (UVB) that is desired and sometimes provide their recommended operating instructions that work well with that specific product.
Right. So I was thinking last 2-3 weeks to turn on for 4 hours during the middle of the lights on cycle.
I was thinking a 6†air gap between sidewall UV light and plants.

So you are saying there are lights that are commercially available that produce uv-b...I assume they also produce UV-a at the same time (like the one in the link does)? Or is there a product you know of that only produces UV-b? Is that even a possibility?
