Darkness before the harvest

Do any of you folks go with 24 -48 hours of dark before harvesting? I did some comparisons between no dark time, 24, 48 & 72 hours and I didnt notice any difference. I have also heard its best to harvest before the light come on I usually do that but more becasue I leave the lights out for 24 or so hours so I can harvest when I want to. Just not a morning person

I swear I remember Nebula doing a piece about that but I can't find it.
If I remember correctly, the extended dark before harvest is bro science.

I turn my lights out at final harvest just to save electricity on lighting and cooling costs. I'm not sure it does anything but that.

Edit. It takes me & Mrs Bluey at least two to four days to harvest a full grow in the flower room as I wet trim the good stuff. The fluffy crap doesn't get trimmed because it makes for great extracts.

I've been using this procedure a while now. It seems to lower the smell of chlorophyll after 24 hours. I stop watering and when the pot seems to be getting light, I wet trim and use a dark period (24-36 hrs) the n I harvest. Drying time is cut in half. Jar it and burp for 30 days and smoke that shit I would. When you pull the pin on a grenade don't throw it away, throw the grenade.

I believe that this common practice has been debunked at this point. I’ve heard Dr. Bugbee discuss it. If there is no light the plant is not photosynthesizing so not creating secondary metabolites. He suggested lights on for 48 hours before harvest would be a more science backed approach.
I did it for most of my first 10 or so grows, but I don’t do it anymore. You could argue other reasons to do it I guess , but sounds like more trichomes isn’t one of them.

It’s a very established approach that lots of folks believe in. I even heard Dr Coco from cocoforcanabis.com say as a scientist he thinks it’s debunked but he still does it, ‘cause we don’t know everything.
Listen to this clip to hear it discussed and explained better than I can

There is a lot of info out there on the subject and I did a similar uncontrolled test between no dark period, 24 hours, 46 hours and 76 and there was no noticable difference but I didnt send it out for testing, I use my wife as my Guinea pig. So assuming these tests were done on the same plants I have to wonder did it prove the lights out time matters or stressing the plant by cutting off some buds before harvest boost the the THC?

Not to put myself on their level but I dont think matters but I also dont think it hurts either. I am not sure how you could do a controlled experiment either. If you use the same plant how would you know if the sress didnt boost the THC or its becasue the roots had less to feed after the first buds are cut or if waiting a couple more days boosted it? So I am going with Bro Science

Read the article I posted Allenpro. It's short and has pretty pictures. In the end, more research is called for.
One of my questions is how much effort is a person willing to put out for an extra X%? Another one of my questions is, how much of a percent change does a person need to say one bit of dope is stronger than another bit of dope?
I'm more doing three days of darkness for Bluey 's energy bill savings and cool nights.

We dont need stronger cannabis so why bother?

The strong stuff is already wickedly strong and where I'm from the most popular weed for smoking is old skool sativas around the 8% to 10% mark.

Do we really need to make the 24% stuff 26%?

I have personally used 20 percent regularly and as a chronic user I would like to see 30 percent. Tolerance level get higher.

Dab, you fool! Dab! At least get yourself a quality pen if you want higher percentages. My norm is above 70% but I still get heady from 20%.

I'm a little to mobile at times to lug the equipment around GB. I do them with amigos every time we gather. I can really tell when someone has a good run. Damn near hallucinate.

ductwizard I dab what is dabbable. That is, pretty much anything that has been dewaxed. DIY BHO is probably illegal where you are and is so extremely dangerous that I recommend no one but Satan make it.
That being said, there are all sorts of videos on how to make BHO at various levels of quality from shatter to live resin. Then there's rosin that is made from heat pressed kief. I don't get into that because of the equipment. The most basic way to go us using a glass extraction tube, or as I like to call it, a glass dick. Google the tube to see what I'm talking about.
A method I have just started working starts in post 90 on page 7, a better breakdown of the process on page 9.

There are all sorts of pens you can get for dabbing. Not vape pens. Pens that you screw coils into. Super portable. But for simplicity, vape pens are the best discrete portable inhalers.

This is exactly the problem when trying to manage tolerance levels and chronic pain and the risks of chronic exposure. Increasing levels of THC % exacerbates the problem with tolerance and it's still happening today with opioids, which leads to death, but to a lesser extent since the acceptance of medicinal cannabis across most of North America. Chronic exposure to cannabis does have its serious health problems and DabberDog has touched on that. Other methods of management for chronic pain need to be used to deal with the issue of ever increasing tolerance and this is one for your health professional, not me, to manage.

Skunk weed grown here has the highest levels of THC that I think I've ever tried and this has had me hallucinating something terribly along with serious anxiety to a dangerous level of panic attacks, which is the only time in my life I have ever experienced that and it's not a road I will ever go down again. So the super strong stuff is particularly dangerous for me given the above and I'm sure I'm not alone.

Then like so many do, add a bit of alcohol into the mix and we have a total disaster in the making. I'm sure most of us have seen it if not experienced it ourselves.
