Dark harvest grow challenge: RosettaStoned

RosettaStoned they're suffering on the same light schedule and same routine as the photos. I'm thinking my soil is too hot, should have better growth. So next time I use my soil it won't be until final pot. I'm thinking I should have just raised them in roots organics original for the first few weeks.

@oldjarhead100
A few months ago I was given a feed schedule that my friend used. Supposedly it's a schedule from a grower in CO that he learned from. I can share it if anyone is interested. I plan on converting it to nutes I want to use.

From what I've read and experienced you cannot monitor ec outflow with organics you will not get a reading. However you may be able to check ec of feeding solution but that could be irrelevant if you don't know what ec is of run off. I think if you keep ec of solution to match phase of growth you should be fine but Campesino there is no way you can measure ec of organic nutrition. The plant takes in what's available and ph of solution/run of will be the make or break point. There are salts that can build up due to compaction but I believe salinity only builds up when there is over fertilization. Humidity and heat will also play a roll in the effect of ec in organics but reading outflow will be impossible.

Yes I'm referring to nutrient solution...teas etc. That will likely not register on an ec meter. However I'm not arguing about solution. I'm only referring to run off. With organic nutrition it's almost impossible to monitor ec. Though solutions that are used to fertigate will only present correct ec numbers in non organic solutions organic ions aren't as active. This is why heat and humidity play a big role. Everything going in its not waste from solution but monitoring ec in an organic grow is likely to steer you the wrong way. I completely agree fertigation ec should be kept in a balance with phase of growth but you're not likely to get an accurate ec reading from teas or run off. Ec is only going to be accurate if you do a soil test. Without knowing what starting ec is and more soil testing to keep monitoring ec it becomes irrelevant. Ec will be different in various areas of the soil when there's compaction, hot root zone or low humidity and will not register on a cheap ec meter.

Point taken. Campesino. I know they aren't the same thing you've taught me more about ec then I could have every googled about. But the ec in an organic solution( tea) will not register on an ec meter. Ph is difficult without a meter or strips as well. We're not measuring salts in an organic solution we are measuring ner.

Your next big challenge will be adjusting the strength of the nutrient tea once it is made. Using a TDS meter (or EC meter) is always a good idea, but with organic nutrients it can only be used as a general guide....organic nutrients read differently than standard chemical hydroponic nutrients. In addition to a TDS meter, use a visual test....most recipes need to be diluted with plain water until a glass full looks like weak tea (the kind you drink).

RosettaStoned certainly Campesino is more knowledgeable then I am in regards to these subjects. I have only learned from him and input my understanding. I have gone over various sources including those he provided me. I agree ec is a great tool but with an organic grow it can only be used as a general guide. Sorry for jacking your thread 😉 😆 ✌.

@chejbjy
No worries, Hi jack all you want. The intelligent conversation is being wasted in this post is all. This is one run by a dummy 🤪

Haha Campesino they should know a few things 😉. I'm really looking into bioagriculture lately... I wish I had found plant science and soil biology so intriguing when I was younger 😆.

Guess it's never too late to go back to school 🏫

@lurkinginthegrass
I'll post it when I can get in there. It's quite the feeding program, a lot to buy. But...he grew exceptional bud

Here you go LurkingInTheGrass
I haven't really looked over this until recently. I wasnt interested in using monsantocare nutes so I just put it aside. Now I plan on make my own plan from this. I will still use the beneficial feedings just change the botanicare nutes with roots organic bottles and dry, or something similar like earth juice. I'll have to compare npk from both if I want to match his or just use the roots organics feeding program and add in the extras per his schedule. I know this will take time but I'd like to at least try it out.
it's a lot and probably more than my ability can handle but hey, what else do I have to

Looking very good!!! I tried foiler sprays when i first started an kept burning my leaves from the lights i believe? But haven't really tried again since.. maybe i should start looking into it again huh? Lol beautiful looking girls tho!

Hello all,
all have been training pretty hard and most into their final positions for the flip. The GCs have stayed fairly short in comparison to the DGTH. Some how the OH are still doing good despite the extremely high pH (7.3 yikes), I guess just roll with it and don't sweat the details right now. Maybe there is just enough compost/EWC/soil to have active microbial life to break down the bottled nutrients and amendments and self adjust pH.

Soil has been getting weekly toppings of bat guano, kelp meal, bone meal. Also weekly compost teas or oregonismXL (thanks Chefbjy ), and weekly fulvic acid foliar. Waterings are up to 48 oz but I think I'm going to need more soon.
"OH" I have been watering 32 oz a day, at one time, but switching to 20-24 oz twice a day. Run off is down to 2oz on DGTH and 10 on GC. I have a base of buddha grow, calmag, and trinity. I switch adding in between earth juice catalyst/ R.O. surge and GO bio root/R.O. HP2, daily. I also top dress these with smaller amounts of the same as the soil. Been using neem cake too for gnats, which I swear I saw one, but since the topping and the medium drying out quicker....none.
DWC have really been bulking up all the branches. I broke off a smaller growth tip on top during training of other branches, no big deal. Roots are growing rapidly and the cooling device is still going strong. Water level and EC are dropping daily now but still just topping off with plain water. Adjusted the A&B mix to a little more B because of the extra P and K. Air pumps are at full power and have been for a while.
all have been getting small amounts of defoliation to get rid of non exposed leaves and smaller inside growth tips. Hopefully to promote more upper growth. Still have a few lower nodes to axe but might grab clones from those since I have actually kept my bonsai mothers looking good.

Beauties! I love that Oregonismxl. I made a solution with it and that's the last thing they've had since my big growth spurt. I'll be using it on all my organic grows 😉.
