Cutting in late flowering

I grow from seed and I am wondering if I can cut the top buds off my plant when they are ready and leave the lower, less developed parts growing so they can mature more. Will that shock the plant? Thanks.

I have done this many times as many in here have also. Works fairly well close to end of harvest. Opens up the bottom to more light.

Yes. Get good light on the buds as Dirty says. It does work well.
