Cut roots while transplanting

I just transplanted 2 white widow X big bud from 2gal pots to 10gal. they were pretty rootbound so i pulled some off and THEN read that is a horrible idea? i also read it can promote new growth. The plants have been stunted for a week now and im curious if thats how they'll stay? Has anyone had good or bad luck trimming roots? I'm about 40 days into veg and they look great, was going 2 more weeks maybe 3 before flower. They're under a 600w LED and LST'ed. I cant add pics right now. I will asap. Any help or comments would be appreciated. this is my first grow so Iexpect to make some mistakes, just how bad is this one?

I've done that with all kinds of plants and in my experience as long as the plants aren't producing their final product (buds, fruit, flowers) there are no ill effects other than maybe a week of rebuilding roots. I actually prefer to do it with cannabis if I transplant a bit late and have those roots that circle the bottom of the pot. They get torn off, plant gets potted up, then veg a little while before flower

Yep,as Speedy said, just like dividing things like Chive plants etc.

You'll likely get a little slow down but the roots are healthier. Take a good garden knife and cut off about 1/2" all around, open the ball up a little and good to go.Some will take up to a third of the ball away from the bottom esp.

So the 2 i trimmed roots on are doing better a few after than the one i didnt touch over a week ago. New growth, bigger fan leaves all around. so far i dont see a problem. Ill post more pics after a week

I've also had the same outcome as well. They seem to have a bit of a boost in growth once they repair and realize they can stretch their legs

I think I cut some roots when transplanting and the only effect I noticed was a big growth spurt. When planting in my normal garden I'll 'rough up' roots (just a slight massage to separate the tangle a bit) out of the nursery pots and that doesn't seem to negatively affect anything, usually the exact opposite..
