Curing question. I harvested my outdoor grow last Friday Oct 10. Yesterday I cut 1 of 6 and put buds in 2 quart jars as that's the largest I have on hand. Both jars have been at 60% for the last 15 hours. Seems like i may not need to burp the jars. Do I burp anyway or just let it ride? This is my first harvest.
 
I don't cure because I extract. But what I've learned is if I'm doing something for the first time, I don't figure on changing the directions. If I can do something a few times by direction, then I look at doing my own thing.
 
I agree with the others' comments. If you are going to smoke it, dry, trim and cure. Curing encourages chemical changes in the buds. This results in a smoother smoke - less harsh, maybe more potent. And your stash won't smell like hay. Your grow, your choice. I'd try following the standard cure instructions for most of your harvest and leave a jar or two uncured so you can personally evaluate the difference.
 
I use brand name TerpLoc pouches. I thought I'd try them out a couple grows ago and I'm simply amazed at how well they work. I even experimented to see how well they worked by placing wetter than you would into the pouch and the buds cured perfectly. I'll never go back to mason jars. No burping, never had mold in a TerpLoc pouch. LED lamps are the future as is TerpLoc pouches. Try using a small pouch to experiment, you'll never go back to mason jars.
 
Curing is the oxidisation of the buds. It allows for the breakdown of chlorophyls also.

Air changeover, or burping, is crucial in that it changes over the air and volitile compounds and allows oxygen back in the jar, which will be all used up pretty quick as it cures.

Cure for a minumum of two weeks out to four. Rh% in the jar will continue to rise well past the 15hr mark and can still be climbing weeks later after burping daily.

Curing is controlled and slow oxidising of the buds.

Yes. While there is oxygen the aerobic bacteria grows and process complex molecules turning them into water molecules and other gases. When the oxygen runs out the aerobic bacteria dies and the anaerobic bacteria grows accelerating the decomposition of plant tissue but at the risk of molding. That's why you gotta let oxygen in to kill anaerobic bacteria and start the cycle again. Balance between the two in a controlled cycle makes the weed taste and burn smoothly
 
I ended up with 12 quart jars of buds. Jarred on 10-17-25. All are still in the 58-62% range. I burped 2x daily for the first week. Burping every other day now. Not sure when I should stop and let them be. I don't know where the notion came from that I wasn't going to cure. I watched a bunch of videos on drying and curing. None of them addressed what to do if you hit target humidity right off. This was my first complete grow. I have started and destroyed many plants over the years.
 
The curing guide on the GWE website states to burp your jars even if you have perfectly nailed the dry. They need air changeover to cure.

There's a lot of false info out there.
 
I have not been on the main page in years. I have at least one more very busy month before things slow back down. Mainly put videos on and listen while doing other things.
 
The other posters are spot on. Burp the jars even if the RH target has been reached. The GWE site def has good info for curing and storing. And, Nebula Haze and Sirius Fourside have published a book called Harvest, Your Guide to the Good Part. I believe It's available online or print.
 
I have some close to 2 years old that I randomly still burp. Lost it's color but smokes better than fresh by far. Assuming it's declining on strength now but still decent to have. I use half gallon glass jars, some with those bovia or whatever humidity packs and I feel like the natural jars smell better. I could just be picking up the pack smells so ? And then I got high.
 
I cure in 2 quart jars and I also burp old jars every so often, but I also like to rotate what I'm tokin on

Yeah. Natural cure is best. Those humidity packs are just for convenience and do seem to impact terps
