Crazy deal is gone

Well if money is no object or if the technology just wasn't there not much you can do.

But I can say I never ran out of smoke using cheap stuff. Not growing for competition. And I like to learn from my mistakes. And I only offer my experience so others can learn too if they want. I'm using a half price special off Amazon now for Veg. VIPARSPECTRA Newest P1000 to replace the cheap 100w ones. I was going to buy more at the half price too but ran into the same situation as the original poster where the coupon is only good for one. All I can say is it's a lot heavier and it has a dimmer. I don't use the dimmers much but rather just raise or lower the light.
 
Same here I use the florescent and 3 blurples for seed starting, veg, clones and making seeds

I want dense firm nugs. But I don't think that it's price or brand that does it. What's the specification that I can look up or measure that does the trick? ... Calling any new thing you see "junk" will make you right 9 out of 10 times but how do you recognize that last thing that isn't? Home grow is a booming industry. I think there will be new manufacturers that don't want to make junk. I buy expensive beer so I'm not cheap about everything! This particular manufacturer seems big into LED lighting of all kinds, I would expect them to have more leverage than someone putting together lights in their garage ... but I didn't know anything about this light other than I could get it for $25 and it had good Amazon reviews. $25 USD. Not more than a few good beers.
 
Diodes used makes a big difference, not all leds are the same. Even mars people think that they use the same diodes as hlg since they also use Samsung however the numbers describing which Samsung diodes used is different.

It's all light that will make or break a grow once a grower understands how to take a healthy plant all the way through. A perfect quality grow under sub quality lighting will still give sub quality bud. I'd like to think by grow 6 I had everything down pat lol wasnt until I upgraded my lights I saw a difference in bud quality. Throw a little plant outside to flower see the difference compared to inside runs

90Gizmo I didn't think about a security or privacy aspect, it's just that I see no need for the accoutrements. When I think about all of the mined data and algorithms, I don't want to volunteer.
 
Spider farmer will give decent buds still will lack the depth penetration of a quality light. Again doesn't matter but if I can up my quantity and quality doing the exact same thing only by running a quality light that's worth it to me imo, as i feel like I'm not wasting anything. Time effort light bill etc.
 
If the spectrum of the light being emitted is the same from a cheap light as an expensive one, the difference must be in quality of material, tolerances, and wages. So the lights won't last too long and probably don't perform at their peak very long because of cheap materials. Heat could also be an issue. It all depends on a person's budget.

Lowest buds will ripen the same time as everything else, will also be just a good. No difference in tops, mids bottoms all equal. To believe what light manufacturers say about their light when it's a fraction of the price should lead one to believe they are trying to get sells and make money. Similar to nutrient feeding charts they also lie saying you must use this wacky amount, in so people who follow use more nutrients in turn spend more money.
 
Right now I think that lights are the least of what's limiting my ability to grow great weed. I don't buy a beginning violin player a Stradivarius.
 
You're right why I keep saying it doesn't matter. Wish somebody would have cared as much about me and what I was doing to be adamant. Would have saved several years and a thousand dollars. I'd prefer to try to talk someone away from a pinto and into a Maserati, that would save them money in the long run.

Maybe. Short of bad assembly, and all boards are done on the same machines as everything else, I would expect these to last as long as anything else unless there are design abuses like overdriving the LEDs or the driver output transistors. I only run my existing lights at 85% trying to extend lifetime and aim a fan across them to cool them (and direct the heat towards the exhaust duct.) These lights and my other two all have MeanWell drivers which I understand are pretty good ones. If they stay on for the first 30 minutes I expect them to go the distance.
 
Now this I understand! (I have a background in optical engineering.) It's the main reason I went from LED shop lights to purpose-built grow lights in the first place. At 85% of this 150 watts unit plus my existing 230 watt unit, I'll have 320 watts net for my 2x4 tent... I'll have the option to turn them down more or raise them higher. When a company is on the bleeding edge they can charge whatever they want. Once a product goes mainstream pricing will move toward commodity pricing.
 
90Gizmo I remember when color TV was new, and community news when someone got one because they were so very expensive. I think LEDs are going to take over for people growing like me, what large growers do may be best for them but doesn't concern me. Whatever a person's endeavor they can always take it deeper from grower, to expert, scientist, to experimental but it's what a person is happy with.
 
The 150 watt light now has 300+ positive reviews on Amazon and it's now $100 with discount. I suspect most reviewers got it for $25 USD like I did. It works perfectly and I like the tuya app better than Alexa. But there are so many choices at $100, I likely would have bought something known vs unknown. No regrets. I now have it in my drying tent with some seedlings. I'm so cheap! Total cost of this setup $110 with 40x40x80 tent, 150 watt light, 4" duct fan and body and totally free diy plant stand.

IMO the diodes and led drivers used are a good indication of the fixture quality...cheap products do not use good components...The cost of led grow lights has come way down, however the cost of building your own cob fixture has doubled..especially the thermal control.
 
$25 USD. i bought it before looking at the specs. Meanwell driver. Tuya home automation support. Samsung LEDs but not the high end ones. It has good specs but there's plenty of competition at $100 USD. The point though is that Amazon often has stupid pricing on items and that doesn't necessarily mean the stuff is junk.
 
regarding amazon...manufactures often list returned items for discount on there product pages...I just added a mars hydro ts 2000 to my new grow area. The new light was listed as a returned item, but it came with every thing plus the 5 yr warranty....It will be a nice comparison between cob and single led chip array.
 
Cop2014... Yes! I buy used from Amazon Warehouse all the time and get what looks like brand new stuff. Same since those are sold by Amazon there's great returns of you need to.
