Cloning from a short bushy plant

Well OldManGrower I wait until I get some stretch going on my photos like after the flip of 12/12 a good time might get longer stems? But I've also taken clones at 3" so how short are the stems? Got a pick? Good Luck :)
 
I'm with you SoOrbudgal . I took a real short clone in a piece of aloe and it took off great.
The long story is it was the one surviving clone of six. All in aloe. The only differences were the length of the stem, how deep in the stem went into the aloe, and number of fan leaves I left.
The six clones were real fine looking from the same plant. 's far as we fan figure, the plant went through various forms of abuse since last October. The plant turned out to be 4'x3'x2' deep canopy and an overall height of 4' at third week 12/12 defoliation. Possibly a long ass job. My newbie neighbor, no less. The job took about three minutes. He came to me real curious and panicky. He asked me if the plant had balls and nanners. Yeah. It did. Crap of a great huge plant. Seven other feminized in the tent with it. He's nervous Me, a little, maybe, because I have four beautiful bagseed.
A short, bushy strain will give you shorter stems for cloning. I think I disagree about moving the lights to stretch. That would put the stretch on the rest of the plant? Maybe not desired?
 
My honest opinion is the shorter cuttings seem to root and grow faster. Personally I feel like 2-3" is better. A theory I just came up with, if I may... You know how the branches harden as they get bigger? So would a harder branch slow down the rooting process? My thought is just that, if a cutting is only 2-3" it will be much softer so it should root faster. Anyone have any idea if this could be a possibility? Has anyone else tested it? Is it an experiment for me to try in the near future?
 
I'm going to use my ficas cuttings to back up what you say, since my weed cloning experiences is one dphipps1020 . The older stems are woodier and longer. The young, short, green stem cuttings take the fastest and with better rooting results.
It is entirely possible I'm going to take a cutting and graft it into the root stock of a male monster plant he just cut down. It's a crazy stalk. I'm figuring four main stems to graft into. Me and my wacky experiments.
 
You are correct. When I take a woody cutting I let it soak in the hormone solution for a few days instead of straight to the dirt.
 
I have a friend who was experimenting with grafting a while back. He wanted to graft a few different strains onto one main trunk and see if they took so he could basically have one big mother plant with the strains he wanted on it. Not sure if he's still thinking about it or not, he had to take a break for a bit. I came across this cool grafting tool a long time ago on Facebook that I was telling him about and just came across it again. Sent him the link, maybe it reminded him who knows.
