I've harvested my girl and when I emptied they fabric pot there was no roots at the bottom of the the pot. So what have I done wrong to be no root's at the bottom
 
I see this with fabric pots, no roots within 3" of the fabric because the soil in that range is to dry, side and bottom.
 
If you look at the main tap root and it goes down about the length of a solo cup and turns 90 degrees and starts to go in a circles you found you culprit. Sometimes transplanting to late after the tap has extended to the bottom of your starter cup. Start your cultivar in it's final environment or pot and see if the tap root don't go to the bottom. That's why Auto Flower cultivators don't like to transplant. Transplanting can be very beneficial if done correctly. I still screw up the timing. Every cultivar grows at different rates. One reason some growers grow the same weed (strain) constantly is continuity. They read the strain in vegitive state to find their phenotype and separate them for a their traits. Me, I just keep the leprechauns out of the patch.
 
I didn't do it that way I just left on water until it sproted and put it straight into the fabric pot which was 30ltr pot
 
Imo you should concentrate on the positive aspects of your grow. What did you learn, what experience did you gain, how could you improve next time, how is the buzz?
 
Interesting. I never really thought about how much roots were at the bottom of the fabric pots before. I guess now that I think about it, I just throw the rootballs away, pot and all.
 
Why not? I feel like I've had really good luck with them so far. Is it because they're bad for the environment? I do feel bad because I throw them away after each grow, so they're essentially "one use".

I was thinking about switching to those "air pruning" pots which are plastic pots with holes in the sides. From what I understand, you get similar benefits as fabric pots, but much easier to reuse, and also more sterile since it's plastic.
 
whats wrong with fabric pots? Used them for years. And MeowMeow, dont throw them out...just rinse them out really good,soak them in a light bleach/water solution and re-use them. Shit im using 8 year old coco and fiber pots.
 
I have trouble saving half the coco in any of my indoor grows. Root ball is just too much so I just shake and break and it saves about half. Rest goes to the garden.
 
It's what is on top of the soil that counts. I have been using Grow bags for a couple of years and won't be going back to plastic. If you put a grill under the pot it will be damn near impossible to over water. As far as the root ball at the bottom of the pot, I don't care as long as the plant puts out big buds, I'm happy.
 
I do the same thing with cloth pots. The PAE I have growing outside now started in a 3 gallon bag and I dropped it in a 20 gallon bag when I put it outside. Roots wiil grow through the 3 galllon bag and into the 20 gallon and still have the boost of air pruning
