Cannabis and dog siezures

My 12 year old Labrador had a seizure on our morning walk. This was her first one and it came out of nowhere. I have had dogs in the past with this condition as they get very old. Very expensive vet visits for little to no results. Best thing they can do is prescribe phenobarbital. I have heard about cannabis for human seizures. Has anyone heard of or tried this for dogs?
 
There seems to be a lot of discussion on using CBD extracts to treat various ailments in dogs, including seizures. THC is generally thought to be bad for them, so you probably don't want to share your stash directly...
 
I worked in the medical marijuana biz in California for 2 years and I know many many ppl that fed there animals edibles for all kinds of health issues i would recommend it as I'm a dog lover and have been threw the same thing. The one thing you really have to remember is tht they are alot smaller than us and you have to give them much less than a human dose so what I would do is test edible to see how it affected me then depending on the size of your dog give a much smaller portion and keep an eye on the dog to see how it affects it
 
one of my dogs in the past got into the ash tray with no so good results. He had a bad trip. Poor thing. I no better that too much thc is not good for the dog brain.
 
Thanks for the info. I will do some research and go from there. I hope this was a one time thing but experience tells me otherwise.
 
Yes but you no what one of my dogs had a seizure when she was 12 and didn't have another one tell she was 15 and she was on her way out by then. stay positive good luck
 
Agree with Insom and St. Buds on this. Go easy at first and work up slowly. best wishes DD. I also have a couple of 12 year olds.
 
I know for sure they have receptors for cannabinoids so i don't see why it wouldn't help their cells,nerves and other body functions keep healthy!Dosage and mixture however could be an issue...Coming at this from pure logic no science whatsoever in my head about the question!!
 
Let us know if you give it a try. My dog has arthritis and I have seen online folks offering CBD meds for dogs. I don't have a lot of trust online and since my dog can't talk, I have been reluctant to try.
 
Thank you everyone so much for your caring responses. she has been fine since the one incident. I will hold off on doing anything until she has another episode. Thanks again. Good people on a good forum.
 
I say give it a try,in a small portion,imagine your first toke ever,give him half of what you felt!Mine ate a bunch of buds that had fallen out of a bag unnoticed by anyone for a whole nite..Only thing that happened is he thew up couple times and drank shit loads of water,slept for 7 hours non moving at all and woke up the happiest pooch ive seen in my life,he had no problems to see a difference in but saw no harm done either... Again ,mini dosage,if we need a gram of oil a day to make a difference in a month give him 1/3!
