Can over feeding harm my plants

Silverback

New member
Hi all
almost at harvest. My girls have been feed double the nutrients required with no ill affects.... Except they don't want to fatten up. I took off on small cola that weighed in at 37.9g wet.. Dry it was 7.6g!
So can overfeeding create less of a heavy bud?
or have I taken this cola too early and it has no substance?
anyone aware of the weight loss ratio from wet to dry?

My current grow.

Hi joker,
they have taken almost double from babies. Had thirteen fingers on most.
Buds don't seem to want to get fat? Using the Australian BLOOM range.
I understood that if the plant could take it.... Give it more?

To much nutrients doesn't necessarily mean bigger buds, it's mostly genetic. The buds look darn good to me.

Your buds look great. Just make sure that you give them a good, long flush before harvest if you've been doubling up on nutes to get rid of all the salt/nute accumulation.

If that was a 'small' cola, I would love to have those problems! Good job, by the way, how was the quality of the bud?

If they're not fattening as much as you want, if the plant is healthy it's usually because the buds aren't getting as much light as they could. Light is sort of like food for your plants, while nutrients are more like a multivitamin. Taking a ton of multivitamins won't make you bigger but could make you sick, while eating more food will definitely make you bigger! It's similar for plants.

What size HPS are you using? Generally you can expect about 0.5g/watt with an HPS on an average grow. So if you have a 400W HPS light, you could expect about 200g of bud in total (~7 oz). It does look like the plant was pretty bushy with lots of leaves near the lower buds. It can help to remove any fan leaves covering bud sites, especially in the first few weeks of the flowering stage, so each bud is getting more light right when it's first forming. It can also help to train the plant to grow flat in the vegetative stage, since that will allow you to have more big colas near the light. For example, if each cola was the same height, you'd be able to bring the light closer, so more buds would get more light.

And like others have said, it's typical for a bud to be about 80% water weight (more or less depending on how recently you watered the plant), so it seems like you're on track. The curing process will also help them firm up a little. They will also continue to fatten until harvest, and often put on quite a bit of weight in the last 1-2 weeks! Honestly I think your plants and buds look great!

Hi all,
and thanks for your comments.

I can't take the blame for the state of the girls..... They needed nets from switch. I don't tend them all the time.......! I have needed to pull them together due to weight.
BLOOM organic nutrition. An Australian company. Never used it before. Had double dosage the of recommended root, feed, ooze, growing in soil, 4 x 600w hps now, started on 150w cfl then 250w mh. Growing holy grail kush, and thc bomb. Took over the room. Think you could have thrown a large steak in there and it would dissappear! They showed 13 fingers all over the place.

Have a look at my collodial silver post.

Thanks again for your comments

My hand is in there somewhere!!!........ Just under one cola that is.

The holy grail kush is pretty impressive. Not the above..... That's northern lights. A smoke that sneak's up on you. Deep heavy smoke.......... Not sure quite what's going on
