can I cut top off

Hi,
my second time of growing, and want to know if the top of one of my plants can be cut off. I'm growing 2 plants at the moment and I'm from the UK where it isn't legal, I'm growing them for my own use to ease some of my pains, hopefully. Now as its not legal I'm growing in my pollytunnel and can't realy bring them out into the open, as I have a nosey neighbour. One of the plants has got too tall and is hitting the top, so would it damage it to take a bit off from the top, as I've only got the 2 I don't want to loose one. Any thoughts please as I said I am a just learning about this,
I grow a lot of things but not normaly my specials as I call them.

My dog broke the main cola off one of my auto's and I removed it. The plant recovered and is doing very well. They are hardy plants and you should be okay by doing some trimming

Someone else on the board posted recently who is having the exact same challenge. Have the plants started flowering yet? You can top it by cutting off the main growth shoot or you can bend it over to make an sideways "L" or "U" shape and then stake it with string and a stick.

I second canuck's idea I would bend her over you wouldn't lose any plant, less stress on her, bonus is that all the middle bud sites would get more light. On your next grow I would read up on topping and fimming makes em short and fat. :) good luck
