Can an exhaust be hooked up to a dryer vent?

I want to set up a 4'x4'x7' tent with a 600W HPS in a closet that is on the opposite side of a wall with a dryer vent. I was wondering if I could put a small hole through the wall, put a splitter on the dryer vent, and then push out the heat from the grow lights into the vent. Does that seem like it could work?

I've heard of this being done. Not sure where the fan would be placed though so that air is exhausted where it should be.

Personally, I wouldnt do this. The dryer should have a dedicated vent by code. Despite the splitter you would need one way valves (flaps) to keep venting air from bleeding into one or the other of the devices. Just my two cents, but I do applaud your thinking outside the box!

You all make very great points. I'm just trying to explore my options

What if I had two fans? One pointing out of the tent as normal, and one above the split pointing up? Would that extra push from both fans help make sure any air from the dryer goes up instead of into the tent?




I wonder if putting a filter after the fan from the tent but before the merge would prevent debris from getting in, while allowing air to move out freely. Maybe a heavy duty cloth filter like the ones you use in an AC? I'd change the filter every grow.




I'll look into flapper valves. Is it like a valve that only opens when it gets pushed from one direction? When I was looking into them I saw that they seem to be used on boats. Maybe boats have a similar problem for some reason, I'll have to look more into it.

Just some ideas I'm tossing around. I appreciate everyone's help and insight so far! I definitely realize this is a long shot, but it's in such a convenient spot for me it seems worth exploring the possibility

Hey, didnt see these responses till now, sorry. All of these are good ideas but you will still have temperature issues in your tent when the dryer is running. I am pretty sure only some kindd of flapper valve, on the tent side would prevent hot air from getting in your tent. I would definately put nothing in the dryer side that could collect lint or restrict air flow. More than one house has caught fire because of blocked or poorly mintained dryer vents! Please be careful!!!

I wouldn't do that. The effort to engineer and build the valve scheme would be about as much trouble as building a separate vent. I usually envy you indoor growers until I read about issues like this.

I just saw a video by ex-kop Barry Cooper where he suggests that very thing to mask heat from the gro room from infrared cameras. Be very very careful.
