Has anybody experienced this problem?? The roots from the plants gravitate to the internal water pump. I made a stainless steel fence around the pump but the roots continue to engulf the fence and then into the pump. any thoughts or remedies to stop this from happening

I have used these bags last 2 grows with good results Hydrofarm AAPB10 Active Aqua Bag, 10.5" x 13.125" Submersible Pump Filter, Large, Black and White. They also have a smaller one I will be buying to use in spring grow Hydrofarm AAPB6 Active Aqua Bag, 6.75" x 9.375" Submersible Pump Filter, Small, Black and White. There is a fibrous flap in them that I will have removed and seam resewn that I believe could hold a pathogen through them being cleaned for reuse not proven just a thought I have.
