Best bang for your Buck$ for new growers wanting to find the best cheap lights lol

i guess i have a 4x4ish grow area i plan trying to get some going out side and a few inside that way i can get free light from the sun but its risky for me i do wanna have a light or lights that can handle at least 4 good sized plants does a hps really get 1 watt per gram? also if i had lights i can grow year round.. do you guys got a youtube or a grow journal?

1 gram a watt is your goal. As a new grower it will be difficult for you to achieve those yields. Not saying it can’t be done, you’ll just have to do your research and spend LOTS of time with your ladies. Training them and getting your cycle down to a schedule. You should see 1 gram a watt as your goal not as the benchmark.

I run a perpetual harvest and take advantage of year round harvesting using lights and indoor controlled environments. You can do the very same with the proper equipment.

Im full hydro. My system is listed below. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Amount of plants don’t determine amount of harvest always . If you grow it and train it right . 1 plant can produce the same yield and 10 . I have seen some monster plants with 30+ colas . You have to decide what you wanna grow and then grow it to fill you space .

To answer your question 1.5-2sf per plant is good . You will have to look up ideal coverage area for a 1000w whatever your planning to use and then determine from there .

Take a look at the Viparspectra PAR 1200 dimmable, for you size grow. They are a great option at a reasonable price point.

Also, be mindful if you are buying from eBay- It's a good idea to buy from the manufacturer, as others may be selling underperforming LED's the company culled.
I have seen tests where the other seller's LED performed with 1/2 the amout of par- when compared to those bought through the manufacturer.

what about led's are the watts from the wall the true wattage you would try to do the math and = 1 gram per watt and yes i understand thats like if all goes right kinda situation.. im really a broke ass closet grower right now hopefully ill have lights by flower time which thats my call pretty much right? i been making my own nutes and stuff since thats the cheapest way and knf forean natural farming shows you how to grow fruits and veggies all natural but with great yields and quality basically shows you how to make the stuff that goes into bottled nutes..

this will be more like a trial run or a learners curve i know i wont get everything right the first time and i know ill still be learning as long as im still growing

thanks bro will keep that in mind! and will go check that light out now do you know whats the max yield watt per gram this light could produce if all was to go right and i know strains differ but can you ball park it or like an avg... like how hps = 1 gram per watt if optimal

whats better marshydro or vipar or is it preference.. and i will look into cmh and hps... i think i have an hps light hanging from my shed but how do i check? its a big ass light bulb and it takes a few secs to power on and its the blue ish light spectrum its in this wierd hood kinda thing but i dont think thats the ballast.. its a really powerful light though and it was most likely repurposed as to dont look like you ordinary flood light or shed light ill take a pic of it tomorrow if i can use it itll be added to the lights i can use and the more the merrier lol at least easier on my pockets till i can get more quality going which if i can get lights i wont have to wait til spring to grow again

right now im bringing them out in the morning and in before sundown to get the full 18/6 but i been kinda lazy and figure it wont make much difference in the first few weeks from seeds

With LEDs it’s kinda an iffy situation. Make your goal true drawn watts and then go from there. If you’re a broke closet grower than you can’t afford cheap. Lol figure of speech of course. Go with traditional lighting or cfls. If you want to gamble you may be able to find an led that will outperform your cfls but I’d honestly push you to a 400-600w traditional HPS. They’re cheap. Brand new for 200 or less (that includes ballast, hood, and bulb) or you can even find a setup on CL That is half that price. Just make sure you use a fresh bulb to make sure you’re getting full output.

Gram per watt is exclusive for sodium discharge, it is thrown out the door with LED as the efficiency varies with products. As such the growers efficiency cannot be measured.

Well said DANGERDAN thank you for the clarification on LEDs. I was almost positive it was iffy and could not really explain. The reason I told him his goal should be drawn watts is more for the cost side of his grow. If he’s unable to at least achieve gram amounts that are equivalent to his true drawn wattag than he may as well be using a sodium discharge light that’s tried and true and also has the measurable science behind it.

this is what i messaged him...

im from fl and would love to to see if we could work something i could come to you! 2514442066 or i guess email is fine.. i see you ost is a month old and also that you want 125 each and right now they are on amazon brand new free shipping for 110.57$ including 2 new bulbs wihch i have no problem buying used but i have to replace the bulbs and im hoping you can give me a discount used price... looking forward to hear from you!

depending on what he offers ima try to get em for 80 a piece or maybe less lol ima tell him i dont want his used bulbs to knock the price down but whats he gonna do with the bulbs if i end buying the rest he might just give em to me anyway, that way i can start using them and they came with 2 bulbs each i dont think hes used em all or much but i will get a few new bulbs since there is no way to test them right?

freddyyola yeah I agree talk him down best you can. Good you did the research on what product he was trying to sell. You’re going to need to remember 600w HPS bulbs put off a lot of heat so you’ll need a way to keep good air circulation to keep your air temps below 85 degrees Fahrenheit. If you’re doing hydro I’ll always mention you need water to be 65-70 degrees Fahrenheit. Get a chiller:) useless info but I feel like I’m constantly spewing it lol if you’re growing in a closet don’t do anything over 600w unless you have a way to air cool that baby. 600w is still going to get HOT. If you’re growing in a tent there’s no two ifs about it you’ll need an air cooled reflector. Tube air cooled reflectors are optimal for heat removal.
