autoflower experiment

I put 2 autos in in mid Jan. They are in Happy Frog soil. They grew in a window for first two weeks because of unexpected cold weather. They have been outdoors since then. Temps at night have been in the mid to lower 40s the last week. They have very slow growth I believe because of so few light hours in the day. Two results so far in experiment are autos can take cold to lower 40s and they need long light hours for fast growth. One plant is Grandy purp and the other is chocomatic. here are pics new leaves are too yellow on new leaves on the choco. What could be the problem? Too cold? First pic is chocomatic second is granddaddy. Exact same specs on each. They are now 5 weeks old. In 2 gallon pots.

I'm new to autos. Had my first two seed break soil today. At 5 weeks, shouldn't they have started to flower by now? I'll be growing mine outside too, so I'll be interested in following your progress.

These are my first autos. I started very early as experiment. I think they are not big because of short days. The seeds were freebies.

It's possible the cold nights have been causing the new growth to be yellow. This is an example of how one plant responded to freezing overnight temperatures overnight, just to compare:


Plants are more resistant to cold if you can keep their roots warm! So you might consider covering the plants, or at least their containers, when it's going to be cold outside. If they're sitting on the cold bricks at night it might also help to keep them on something else like wood, or possibly even directly on the ground if you're not worried about bugs
