Attempting to transplant an auto flower (intentional)

I thought I would "try" and transplant an auto- and see if it works and/or makes a difference:

White Widow AF from Seedsman.
Roots Organic Original in the germbag.
1 gal nursey pot with MotherEarth Coco/perlite 70/30 outside of germbag
1000ml pHed @5.8 - water with Protekt 1ml, Cal/Mag plus 5mls, GH micro 1ml, bloom 2mls.
Various LED's throughout the grow.

What I would like to see: if I can accelerate the sprout- to- seedling growth, then transplant into the final container (size/medium/nutes- yet to be determined).

She broke ground yesterday and was immediately opened and phototropic! I gave drops of water (1-2mls) today in the germbag.

How does the germbag work? Does it stay with the plant and the roots grow through or do you have to remove the plant from the bag at some point?

Oh and good luck, watching with interest. :)

Auto's really interest me, once I get the grow set-up dialed in I'm definitely gonna have some questions. I can see me moving to autos at some point.
 
Day #4 on the topside and she looks great- leaves growing beyond the germbag, indicates the roots are out there, too

I decided on using the GH trio and Nebula's auto feeding schedule week #1- veg -with one caveat.
When I water and feed my plants - I use the feed chart for the amount of nutes per plant per week (usually)- NOT PER GALLON.

Personally, I feel it takes away some variables (temp/humidity, etc) and you know how much each plant actually got and may have used-
So I mix the formula in 500mls, then water - PHed to 5.8-6.4 til run off
I'm leaving for 5 days and this should hold her attention.

Holy hell!

That's an intense write-up. I'll be re-reading that for a month or more, lol.

But if I understand correctly, you're basically making a solution of nutes in the amount of water you anticipate the plant will use that week. Kind of the concept of a hydro res but hand watered. Which provides an even application of nutes each watering. Water is gone, nutes are gone. Is that a basic understanding?

Do you continue this through out the grow, or just early on when the weekly water demand is lower and more easily anticipated?

Do you do any plain water flushes during the cycles or are you finding them unnecessary?

I probably have more questions, lol.
 
If a plant is drinking 1 liter per feeding- then I mix the nutes in 500ml and feed the plant- followed by 500ml water. (or until it runs off)
I'm not sure there is a correlation between the water gone and the nutrients gone, also.

I feed this way the entire grow and hold the nutes -not the minerals, depending on the plants reaction, but in a week there is usually a couple of feedings- so I would adjust with water , depending on the plant.
It often ends up the usual- nutes two feedings and water once, rotation.
 
DAY #11 above the coco/perlite.

I ended up being away longer than expected- so it was given 250mls-plain water not pHed (usually runs @5.5-5.8)- on August 10th.

I will wait for it to grow a bit and dry out before transplanting perhaps as early as Monday!

If/When leaves reach the sides of a container- the roots have too!
I can not let this get rootbound- NOT even a little bit.
 
DAY #13-Transplant day- it was still wet, but leaves starting to go over the edge and I had good growth to nodes 4&5. (about 1 week earlier for my setup)
The roots were perfect with a few showing at the bottom and sides- yet none wrapping around the dirt ball.
I decide to transplant (uneventful) into a 3 gal fabric pot (with holes added) in a ROO-coco mix @ 2:1 and Great White.
Continued GH trio when watering in, but likely change once it gets closer to flower.

Let's see if it takes off- over the next 3 days
 
The transplant went fine and she is growing well.
A couple of new nodes and filling out the fabric.

ONLY 16 Days Old (above ground)!

Unless there is a change due to transplanting- this will be the last pics.
I will add 1/2 flowertab by Nirvana, then just water until harvest.
 
I have used this method about 20 times since posting this - all with very good results and quick growth in the vegetative state (photo & auto), which is one of coco coirs strengths and what I was trying to determine at the onset. Verses planting auto's into the final container at the onset.

That said: Waiting a little longer to transplant (a couple of days) may be better- I will try waiting until the 5-6th node and the plant hangs over the edge by about 1-1&1/2".
There has been no transplant shock- even though I mishandled a few of them- they bounced back in a few hours.

I have found not much difference if I continue the final container with coco or soil- except the coco is much more work (water/nutes) than the soil plants.

I did find coco/perlite in the 1 gal, just about doubled my plant size for any given stage of the vegetative phase.

I use this method now for all my plants.
 
I personaly always found it stunted my growth and over all size of the plant when finished. Im glad to see it worked out for u! Have u given them kelp and or b vites?

I use a couple of products at transplant- Great White and some sort of kelp based root stimulator/enhancer.
After transplant- it depends on the strain, whether I continue to use GH trio or an organic soil with minerals schedule.
I don't use b vitamins, unless they are incidental in one of the many kelp suppliments.
