Ant infestation!

My girlfriend's dad just went away on vacation for 2 weeks and left his plants in my hands while he's gone. First thing I noticed were ants climbing all up on the branches!! Got some cinnamon to treat them with.

My question though I was wondering if there are ants present does that mean aphids are around as well? Haven't checked the leaves for them yet

Not necessarily. Best to keep checking though. Yes, ants do farm anphids for their sweet due. The ants could have just been scouts searching for food/water... in which case they would not come with anphids.
In any case, keep up with the cinnamon treatment and eventually they will evacuate the garden. You have to be persistent though. They are stubborn little creatures.

Water ants? I've had ants in my apartment during exceptionally dry times, here in way southwest (coastal) US. The ones I've gotten don't do anything but ant along. I can leave a Twinkie on the counter without attacks. The ones I've had outside have gone for aphids and the ilk. So...
Buy yourself a big plastic marijuana plant and swap it out for the infested one. When girlfriend's daddy comes to check, proclaim vociferously that the plant is tall, strong, and that he's done an amazing job at raising such a healthy, pest free plant. Just wait for the pat-on-the-back.

Ants are bad news, I have tried DE, cinnamon, boric acid, and these do not work, ants will just make trails through it.
I would bet these plants have aphids as well, lady bugs may help,,,
As for the ants, outside I use chickens, inside smash smash smash (and maybe some strategically placed poison)
I have 2 types of ants here, a protein based and a sugar based, each requires its own strategy,,,
of course get rid of food and water sources,,,
I fight them every year,,, good luck!

So far the cinnamon is doing the trick ants are still checking out the base of pot but as soon as they smell that cinnamon they start runnin! Will probably water em with a lil cinnamon mixed in just in case they're already in the soil. Will keep you guys posted

Cinnamon definitely works. I had ants moving in with eggs and all and some cinnamon outside of my fabric pots stopped it real quick!
