Hey y'all ... still aintdedyet, and enjoying the last days of summer here in the Great White North.
So my 1st outdoor grow appears to be progressing well. I have a Super Silver Haze (started indoors on April Fool's Day) and 2 Blue Dream (started on the May two-four weekend). The Haze was only LST'd and defoliated, the Dream girls were topped once, LST'd and defoliated. They are both about 5-6 weeks into flower, although bud development seems a little slow. Maybe it's because the Dreams are Cali girls, the Haze best grown in equatorial climates. Probably not the best strain selection for around here, but they were bonus seeds, so what the hey, let's see what happens.
The Haze if 9' tall, the Dream girls about 6'. Together with removing the larger fan leaves, I've been using the support structure to tie down branches in an attempt to expose bud sites. In some cases I can get the cola to lay down flat, in others the options are limited. Should be interesting to compare buds grown vertically with those grown from a horizontal branch. Any thoughts or recommendations on this much appreciated.
So I'm hoping that in 3 weeks or so I'll have to support the colas as opposed to tying them down, using the support structure (teepee, trellis, "hanger bar"). I've purchased some yo-yos and have been practicing with them on my tomatoes. They seem to do the job are easy to manipulate, but I have a couple of questions with respect to using them outdoors on cannabis:
1. Is there a preferred attachment point on the cola, or do you just play with it until it seems "right" with respect to the desired support, bend in the cola, etc.
2. Of greater interest: we get some pretty good winds here and I'm afraid the fishing line on the yo-yo might cut into a branch if they are whipping around. Hasn't been a problem with the tomatoes, but I'd hate to see it happen with the girls.

On the tepee stakes there is no foolproof way to do it. I've cut sections of netting once to "suspend" heavy colas even cut panty hose ( did this with cantaloupe vine on fence) no kidding worked well. Allows airflow kinda like a hammock. My 2cents. Great looking just use a little mcguyver on em.
