5 little beans

my wife and I put our peppermint kush into the rooter plugs last night! we do plan to start a grow journal, but it will probably be a catch up deal as I can't even figure out how to fix my avatar! my "tech expert" will be on in the next week or so to help me get all that going, lol.
1000w hid in a 5×5 tent is already proving to be a challenge. couldn't get my surface temps under 93 for a bit even with the 440cfm fan full blast! portable a.c. full blast got me down pretty stable between 77 and 81. still ordered another fan tho, need to go active it seems. and that should get me even cooler for flowering. but for now we are under control. we plan to run plain PhD water for the first week after sprout, then begin nute schedule with the first reservoir change.

tried a few different ways to keep it down. discovered the 440cfm fan is super weak. the a.c. in the tent is rated 220cfm exhaust and it sucks the tent in more than my fan! ordered up 2 good quality fans to go active, once installed I shouldn't even need the a.c. anymore til we get some hot weather to justify it, lol. got max can pro series with 5 yr warranties, gotta be better than the Apollo in-lines. I know my 5×5 is the minimum space for 1000w hid, but I'm pretty confident that once my airflow even comes close to 400c.f.m this issue will resolve itself.
and thanks for the input/sub there green!

quick update...
checked my rooters bout an hr ago(first time, lol) 5 out of 5 popped, one already half inch above the rooter plug! had to split a couple plugs and turn sprouts because some of them were shooting root out the top. note to self..water gently. two seed flooded out of the plugs getting them wet. probly use tweezers to place them properly next time too.
today i will fill the reservoir with just phd water, soak my airstones, and see if i can make domes for them. humidity is very very low right now, like freakin 10%. so until this freeze goes n the rain comes (2 days, if that) i need em covered. that big clumsy res i made should help some too after i fill it up.
my wife is goin nuts this morning learning to use the ph meter, study crammin gwe, getting log books together, i guess this just got real for her!
update when i can. figured out the pic upload, much easier than i thought. still cant figure out the avatar thing tho.
thanks again for this forum and the folks that come here. and god help me live up to that long ass screen name i picked.

hey all you about to be first timers... peppermint kush seems to be indestructible. been doing everything I can to kill them but they just ignore me and keep growing. most of these sprouts have been physically handled a few times, overheated, and dann near dried out. and yet within hours of a fix you can't tell anymore. still have all 5. long day. smoke time.

ok. a little catch up. babies grew at least half inch today. stems thick n getting thicker. nice shade of green, half have popped their first fan leaflets. got the top feed on them and they love it. keeping ph 5.8 to 6. last. 30 hrs now under 1000w mh. at 15.5 inches the meter ranges 48k to 58k lux. seeming to like that too!
discovering now how humidity plays a huge role in controlling temps. my r h in the growing area has been at 10%. was trying every trick with fan angles and vent speeds. still a precarious 83f. after getting the humidity to come up some, I can shut all but 2 main floor vents on the tent and run my fan at the lowest speed, and hit temps down to 75. honestly didn't try to go any lower. oh and the a.c. was off too. cool, I can take that thing outta there! gonna push it back up to 80-82 and let it ride. posting pics in a few minutes.

ok. here we are at one week from getting those seeds wet. things are settling down for the moment, humidity is coming up, slowly, but finally broke 40 today...more humifiers on the way. ph stabilized pretty well, been easy to keep it 5.9 to 6.0. site temps run 77 to 82. res temp at 78. mh at 15.5 inches from the deck giving 55k to 65k lux at plant tops. been there 4 days same time I put em in their places. plants range 1 to 1.5 inches tall. 3 are very strong. the other 2 are not weak, they're catching up super fast. they were the ones suffered the worst getting too dry. hull stuck to them pretty bad. they are placed in the center to get the best light, and in a week prolly won't be able to tell the difference. once I got that hull off they were in a hurry.
oh yeah, I cat proofed the man cave, so I can have my tent wiiiiiiiide open. much better.
I use my phone to post pics, so my grow porn contributions will be posted shortly.
