48 hours in dark vs. partial harvest

I am an outdoor grower. I have read about the benefits of 48 hours of darkness prior to harvest. But I have also read that some plants mature in sections, making it preferable to take top or outer buds first, then allow a few days for the remaining buds to mature. How can these two be reconciled? I don't know if remaining buds would do well going back outdoors after having been dark and dry for 48 hours.

A partial harvest is always doable and a great way to maximize yield. The 48 hours of darkness is kind of counterintuitive to my own way of thinking. Plus it's an immeasurable variant in quality unless you have an onsite lab to measure before and after.

Oh yes doing a second harvest is a great way to help finish off plants that don't have enough light penitration to lower branches/colas, buds. Just cut off tops and let the plant continue to flower. I've done this many times in the past.;)
