My Solis tek ballast came with both a 110 and a 220 volt power cord. Is there any benefits to using 220 instead of 110?. I have a DEDICATED 220/ 50 amp line and could use 220 if I wanted to.

If a device can be run on both 110-120 or 220-240 volt then your device use slightly less watt in 220-240 volt than 110-120 volt(Its waht im 100% sure) the less the volt the more the amp is needed to reach an specific watt. the more the amp the more wasting energy in resistances lowering the efficiency.

If you have 2 cables for each volts then 110-120 volt cable should be thicker than 220-240(to lower wasting potential before your device also reducing the risk of burning cables) so you can use 110 volt cable for 220 volt line but try not to do inversely

Actually, that was well put. Many descriptions i have seen get it so wrong!. The power saving comes from lower line loss through heat dissipation. Not from "half current half power" The power saved might be minimal however as the amount of watt energy is the same, its more beneficial for transmission lines.

The simple answer is, using the 220 cable in110 mode will increase the efficacy of your ballast. Using the 220 cable in a 110 environment will cause a fire and using the product as intended will preserve your warranty.
