2 grows harvested, not happy with weight

I have completed two grows now. The first was full of mistakes and it's a miracle the plants made it to harvest. The second grow went better. Plant stayed mostly healthy. Overall, I'm happy with the bud quality of the second grow. But my problem now is yields.

I've seen other growers get tents full of buds, but my plants always look spindly and although the buds look big on the plant they get small after drying and there isn't enough of them after harvest. After trimming I'll only have a jar or two of actual ganja.

Do I need better equipment, nutrients, supplements or what?

Hello @eatyourhartout Welcome Aboard. It's easy to say that you need better equipment etc., to increase your yields but you might not need anything. Autos don't produce as much per plant for me as photo plants. Have you been growing autos? Your grow environment is also important and affects yields. Without knowing any specifics about your set up your light plays a critical role in how your plant develops. Power wise does your light match your grow space? Your yields can be limited by the size of your grow pot. Your yields can be limited by genetics as well. Don't be discouraged. The good thing is you want to improve, grow again, and again after that.

Looks like your buds are decent , just keep working on your skills and set up. 2 tries is not that many be patient.
As @golfnrl said give us some more details about you set up, and maybe folks will have some suggestions.

@golfnrl and @Smallgrow Thanks for the encouragement. I got a 4x2 grow kit on Amazon from Mars Hydro that came with a 300W LED.

It came with fabric grow bags, I think 5 gallon ones, and I used potting soil from the store. I used Dr Earth Flower Girl Bud & Bloom Booster 3-9-4 nutrients once buds started forming.

The seeds were from a good bag of weed but the buds they grew weren't the same greasiness or smell. I'm not sure if that's genetics or grower skill. I've used the original seeds now but I found a few seeds in this weed I was thinking about growing.

I wonder if I should start with better genetics but I'm worried about buying cannabis seeds online. It's legal to buy weed in my state but I don't want to lead anyone to my door. Is there any way to buy seeds in person, like a seed trading event, or directly from another grower?

You aren't going to lead anyone to your door by ordering seeds online, don't sweat it. The equip. you have seems fine, I wud blame the genes

Patience grasshopper. You did well for the second grow. There are many steps you could take to increase yield. The most important component of a grow is the light. That is where the plants get their energy. More light = more plant. The trick is to push the light as hard as you can with out burning the plants up. I hope you are studying the GWE lesson plans. Hi, eatyour... .The other forum members are better experienced indoors than I ( a greenhouse grower). But, I will opine on the following:
- Bag seed is usually average. Seed sellers (I like HerbiesHeadshop) normally have F1 genetics. Seeds from F1's (F2's) are frequently less robust. Buy good F1 genetics.
- Have you tried techniques like low stress training, topping or fim'ing to increase the number of bud sites?
Look 'em up on bv the GWE site. A little extra work = more bud sites = larger yields.
- You mention "plant" singular. Try two or three in your tent. More plants also = more bud sites = larger yields.

Gardening is learning like most everything. Two grows and you are getting smokable buds. Just need some fine tuning.

I understand about the seeds. I live in a legal state but was paranoid at first. Buy your sees from a reputable online retailer. No one will come knocking. GWE recommends several. I use a couple of them and also Mandala Seeds. You really want to start with the best seeds that you can.

I concur with most on this your set up looks good I think genetics could be holding you back. Read the tutorials on that nebula and Sirius have available. I have been growing about 3 years now and each one is a learning curve. I find growing inside gives you more control of the environment. On the other hand outside you can get bigger and better but here again you need genetics that can handle your environment.I’ve tried 3 grows out door with 6 plants each usually have 1-2 that are successful. I’m learning what can handle the heat and humidity where I live. Just enjoy the ride and learn. One more thing maybe hampering your grow is your growing medium. You say ‘potting soil from the store ‘ is it a miracle grow or some heavy soil? Some other options are from fox farms, I have good luck with pro mix or sunshine mix4 with added perlite. That’s my 2 cents worth. I have a couple bee hives and have learned that if you ask the same question to 10 bee keepers you get 12 answers…same in gardening.. try some options figure out what works for you.
