#2 grow journal, Sour Diesel and Big Dirty

Yeah everyday at work! Been a gardener for 20 years😜. I'm new at mj and growing indoors though, no shame in admitting that. The defoliation was inspired by what I've seen out in the field and green75 methods and results. I've been considering doing my next grow half defoliation and half no defoliation to figure out for myself what the differences might be since I do not have the same light set up as green for example.
There was also an issue a month or so ago with my lights being too close and burning leaves, could that have anything to do with the foxtail?

Yes I think that's what caused that. 1200 watt is a lot and too close may be very harmful. I'm new indoors too and I'm curious how much defoliation is too much and how much is good etc. it's a light thing not a defoliation thing. I'm thinking about the same experiment but with two identical clones. Maybe later this year

9fingerleafs heres my plan for the next grow, might be a bit ambitious but hey what's life without self imposed challenges! It'll be a double comparison, lec vs led and defoliation vs no defoliation. 8 plants under the scrog, same big dirty strain, same clones. The no defoliation side will get some minor removal but nothing abusive. I'll come up with a detailed schedule for the defoliation side. Let me know your plans for yours, it'll be interesting to compare results.

That's exactly what it needs to be done. I can only take clones from my own plants cause no dispensaries in my country. So I was thinking re vegg the only good genetics I have and take a few clones out of her. I could have 4 plants in total defoliating two and compare them. Your experiment is way better I only have half a square meter to grow.

You can't order seeds online? Too dangerous maybe? I'm basically doing the same, the mother was a "bag seed"from a dispensary and the genetics are awesome! Cool let's keep in touch about this, I'm sure there'll be plenty of interest. What country you live in if you don't mind me asking?

It's more like the regular mail does not reach where I live. Only private courier and those are too dangerous to use. I live kinda in the jungle between Belize and Mexico part of it being a paradise is benign rural and away from the fucked up society/ system /government/ police / culture (or lack of it) so a lot of things are being sacrificed like no mail or hydrostores

I've spent the whole day working in this nasty coldish drizzle, no hydrostore sounds like a pretty good compromise at the moment !😂

9fingerleafs That's incredible! Have you ever thought about making seeds from your clones, just so you have them in storage in case you need to stop growing for a while?

Thanks nebula. Actually I have but I have so little space to grow indoors with AC that I don't want to pollinize the whole grow at a time. Besides I just have female genetics. so I would need a male :(

Yes. Bought some giberelic acid but it nevrr arrived. I've seen breeders say the best way to get female pollen that won't make hermaphrodite seeds is letting a plant flower +16 weeks and it will make bananas with the healthiest pollen. Have you ever tried this? I could do hat cause this hybrid will flower in less than 10 and the brick weed looks like long ass sativa. Maybe the buds I'll leave for the re veggin will make some pollen and in that case I'll for sure save some to pollinize a cuplé of branches

Man...there are countless articles on how defo increases bud sites and bigger buds...countless examples as well...

Plants grow leaves for a few reasons...survival..defense from animals...and just plain because they are plants and they are supposed to....they don't need them all....plain and simple...how can one person that has never been a defoliator tell or suggest to someone else that it's not good....it's like my kids telling me that cheese sauce is no good...they refuse to try it but will be the first ones to tell you it is awful...makes no since to me...not trying to be disrespectful but c'mon...

My $.02 given....

Hey green, I hear ya man, but gotta admit if I was a newbie gardener your ways would scare the shit out of me!😂 But yup I'm a convert now.
Second grow, with a better defoliation schedule than the first and I've already improved my nugs, size and quantity, no doubt. Me personally, I'm a beginner at this and I know myself and the way I learn, gotta do the comparison at some point, might as well do it now. But I'm a pruner, that's where I have fun at work, so I'm pretty sure I'll be chopping fan leaves for a while longer. Just have to keep on trying to figure out the timing better...

Chill out green I said that lots of leaves and few calyxes is not good. We all know you swear by defoliation. We are just analyzing how and when works better for us
