1st time trying to make tincture -

I am following a recipe / instructions from this site. I am using trim from a small grow of Mexican Haze.
First step was decarb, second step was to soak the weed, in a strainer, in a large bowl of water for 45 minutes. Third step was remove weed from strainer, squeeze the liquid out of the weed and place in a blender.
When I squeezed the liquid out of the weed, my hands became quite sticky. There must be something useful in the water.
This is where my question comes in - what can I do with the water? it is very dark looking and has small bits of weed in it.
Can't believe I have been wasting all of our trim and throwing it away :(, uugh.

Well, I did think of one thing to do, I added a little sugar and now I am enjoying a tall glass of Weed Iced Tea :joy: !

Going2fast - I read the instructions carefully and yes it says to soak in water. I will try to find the thread and copy the info and post it here.

and YES, I am drinking it now. Taste a little like weed.
 
Cool cool. Very interested in the recipe. unfortunately your not going to get buzzed from the tea. THC is not soluble in water.
 
Dude! You are supposed to mix it with 151 Rum or Everclear! The water is worthless. THC is not water soluable but it is alcohol soluable. How stoned were you when you tried this?
 
Blowdout2269 - thanks for posting the link. I used the Ed Rosenthal Method.
After removing my weed from the water, it went in a blender with Everclear, and steeped for a bit longer than stated in the instructions. I will leave it alone for overnight to drip as in step #12. I'll check it in the morning and dispose of the weed.
I am now wondering if I should reduce the alcohol to make it thicker. If I do this it will be by sitting the large glass container on top of the heating mat we use for sprouting seeds.

Hopefully we will have something that will help me get some sleep :smile:.

and the Tea did not do a thing - do I need to add milk or cream to activate the THC?

You're very welcome! This is a good read.
I've used the double-boiler method(a pan on a pot of boiling water) to reduce the tincture into a stronger one, and even down to oil. It becomes very very strong at that point. If you do this, remember, NO OPEN FLAMES!
 
So the question is once you decarb the weed can you just eat it, or drink it in a tea. Or do you have to mix it with something else like alcohol or oil to get the effect. The answer is yes? Now I am on the same page. I might make some tea here when I make my tincture. If it is stupid and doesn't work. I am likely to try it twice.
 
I didn't read ol Ed's recipe but would like to add to this conversation.

typically you would soak your weed in water to remove all the impurities, chlorophyll, and the Nasty to helps with taste in the final product, butter, oil, tincture.

That gray water should be tossed not made into tea.
 
The decarbed weed can be mixed into anything, a milk shake, those pancakes, a hamburger. Tea will not work well as you'll have the ground weed still in it if you want the high. It can be simply eaten, but most dont find it flavorful.
 
I've made tea with the leaves too.and yes you can get buzzed (on an empty stomach mind you) from the tea like any other edible if done correctly. Decarboxilization is the key.. I have also found that using a vape can be very beneficial in this matter. The leftover weed is saved in a canning jar (kind of like how an ashtray works. I then use the vaped flower as a tea and it's very relaxing.

I've also made tea from the leaves by baking them for 20 minutes on a cookie sheet. You mix in a little coconut oil beforehand so the leaves don't get crispy. Then you steep it like normal tea.

Another great use for the leaves is to blend them up with some distilled water to make for a great nutrient topper for new grows.
 
Mr.furley the liquid is green, very green. I think it would be great for dying easer eggs! :)

The weed has drip dried overnight, I think I may save it and add it to a batch of brownies.
I am reducing the green alcohol to something thicker by sitting the glass mixing bowl on the heat mat.
Hope the resulting tincture is something that I can easily consume, I really don't like a strong alcohol taste.

Yeah, you should always get your jars or decarb'd flower and ethanol as cold as possible before combining. This will help the oils separate from the plant matter.
