1st Time DWC

Since my first 3 grows in soil didn't turn out due to pH problems during mid flower stage, I thought I might try DWC.

My 1st question is, How often should I change water in the reservoir?

Any recommendations for a system? I'm currently looking at the Vivosun system.

I not sure I would go the direction you are planning. If you have Ph problems in soil, it will be far harder to control in a DWC. I have never done it but from my readings of the tutorial lessons on here suggest it is harder to control Ph in a DWC setup. What Ph tester are you using for the soil grows?

Hi Dalek I don’t have any experience with a DWC system. I grow using the autopot system. Auto pots are a gravity fed system with no moving parts. The system uses a reservoir and is very user friendly. In autopots the plants feed from the bottom and basically water themselves. With autopots you can grow in any medium you choose. I grow in coco and perlite. Very easy and forgiving. I’ve been using the system for several years and recommend it. Check it out. Autopot-USA.com

btw…I don’t mean to steer you off course if you’re set on DWC.

I concur with the advice the other forum members have offered. I must ask how you know your mid-flower problem is pH related?
And, if you knew about the pH problem, what did you do to correct it? What was the suspected pH reading? (I assume you had a good pH pen!)

Let's also go back to your decision to grow in soil. Why that decision? What kind of soil?
I see newer growers make all kinds of set up mistakes, soil or grow media selection is but one.

IMO, I would swap out your soil for 70/30 or 50/50 coco/perlite, use GH nutes plus CaliMagic (follow Nebula's mixing schedule, not the bottles') and try again. I have never had an unsuccessful plant out of three or four dozen grown using the above. If you do not have a pH pen, you will need to get one or, at least re-calibrate your existing one. Essential for mixing nutes and testing runoff!

Have you researched or even read the many fine grow articles here on GWE? That is my best suggestion to ensure a great harvest.

Your going the wrong direction. Try soil, coco coir them DWC. DWC needs constant attention. PH can swing either direction at any time. Alot more attention to details than adding water and watching. Just my 20+ years experience speaking.
