I know I have asked this before but I didn't get a lot of opinions to help me out with my decision.. I have a 150 watt hps and I want to upgrade to a 250 hps but I'm also considering buying another 150 watt hps instead of the 250 hps and putting 2 150 watt hps in my tent instead of a single 250. I'm just wondering if my 2 light would give me better yields vs a single 250? Is it worth it I know the 250 would penetrate deeper but I know I would get more coverage with my two 150.. what's better wider coverage of canopy or penetration? Go ahead share your opinions..

hey nuggs so here is my understanding of lights .the closest thing to the sun we can achieve is 1000 hps ,thats the best we can give the girls. and isn't the goal here to give the plants the best opportunity to reach there full potential . that being said the more light that you provide the better your yield will be with all other things being equal . so yes 2 150s are better than 1 250 , and 2 250s are better than 2 150s so on so on . now I know there are a lot of growers out there that use all kinds of wattage lights with all kinds of spec.s what it comes down to is are you happy with your yields if you are then your all set if not then increase your light output . personally I run 1000hps with leds in room to give the full spectrum of light to my girls hope that helps

I agree, two 150s should turn out better than one 250.
You won't need deeper penetration if you utilize training techniques to keep them low and wide.
The plants will also get a bit of side lighting from the light not directly above them.
I don't know if they make 150 MH but if they do you could add one of those next to the HPS for better light spectrum coverage

Personally I would go with 2 150 watts like u said it would cover more area u would have two "Suns" instead of one and u would have a extra 50 watts. I believe I got this info from Jorge Cervantes tht he recommends useing multiple 400 or 600 watt hps over 1000 watts because they give off less heat

and also 600W HPS have the best lumen per watt rating out of any wattage MH or HPS

Cool thanks a lot GWE. Only thing I was worried about was penetration but I think I can do about 6 inch colas with them we will see..

Yep, 1000W obviously has more total lumens but the 600 has the best lumens per watt ratio.

The brand of bulb I use (GE) gets 150 lumens per watt for the 600W and 130 lumens per watt for the 1000W
