12 - 12

Somebody said to start the 12-12 period by going totally dark for 36 hours first. Anybody ever try that?

Introducing photosensitive plants to a extend dark period (24-48hrs) has long been disgust as a "kick start" to speed up the flowering metabolism switch. I have never done it and can't remember if it was extremely beneficial to those that did.

Science or Bro Science that is the question.

Howdy Oreo, I'm going to 'stick my neck out' by saying that it would, most likely, kill or at the very least, severely stunt their growth! Just go out to Your lawn and place a piece of plywood or metal on the grass for 36 hours and You will have a yellow or dead spot that will leave the neighbors wondering about your state of mind! LOL!!!
I do not think that I would try the 36 hours of dark before the 12/12 switch, just changing the light timer works for me.

Well yes, I do that all the time. I thought it was a common practice. It will not hurt the plants.

I have heard that if your plant has a hardtime start to flowering that people do turn off for 36 hours to try and kickstart it.
