Need some help guys. What ya all think is going on?

So I'm getting ready to do my second grow after growing a beautiful tall big bushy male! Very sad day when I found that out. Anyways I did well with the low stress training to get a great canopy but my plant was very tall compared to the pot and I've been seeing a lot of pictures of guys doing low stress training and keeping McKenna be close to the pot how is that accomplished? Every time I grow from a seed it always shoots up a good five six inches before it actually starts bulking up. I like to keep it closer to the pot. More like the the this pic.. or is this from a clone? Any advice will help. Thanks guys as always.
