    Oh lol. yeah that was because i had different buckets when i started. They were white, but let light in and grew algee. I had a hole cut in the lid for those buckets and those 3 inch net pots hanging in the reservoir. Switched them out for this set up but roots prevented me from removing from the net pot so the net pot went along for the ride so to speak. So no you dont need the smaller net pot. It was a rescue from a failed bucket system.
