Hi everyone, and special thank you to Nebula & Sirius for creating this vast incredible resource and allowing me to be part of it. The passion and respect for the plant and process that goes into everything on the site jumps off the screen and engulfs you. The articles are not only informative but fun to read. I’m so glad to be here. So, a bit about me and my setup.
Born in ‘69 to hippies and an 80’s teenager who literally lived the, “I leaned it by watching you†commercial. I’ve been active since I was 11 years old (oops). I’m now 52 and had my first ever grow experience this past summer. It wasn’t great, but I now know why. Which is the point, right? My now adult nephews friend (I told my sister to let me ask them in HS but she wouldn’t) brought me by 4 clones on a whim. He just dropped them and said he’d be back to help etc, we’d up pot them…(we did do that). Unfortunately he didn’t make it back but once and I had no clue. It was a disastrous summer a ton of rain, I was already over watering and didn’t know to cover them all the time (I did a few times but it would rain overnight etc). The nutes got washed out and never replaced. Still they struggled and survived, although small and low yielding. Then I saw a spot of bud rot, freaked out, cut it away and took them down and quick dried. Lessons learned. I couldn’t let it rest though and over the next 6 weeks researched tent products. Then everything came, I ordered seeds which was agonizing as I’m not good with picking things. I read, watched, tried to learn. Freaked out that I’d never be able to germ a seed and almost drove 3.5 hours round trip to get clones from strangers. Every seed I dropped germed, 2 didn’t make it past the pop and after inspection of a cube, the taproots seem to have gotten trapped or something. But! Right now I have 7 thriving gals up there that were transplanted into 3gals from solo cups on Monday. Now, each day before I open the tent I tell myself, you did this, you’ve gotten this far and you can do it again. Relax…. (I’m not 🤣🤣). Anyway, I could talk for days and were probably already regretting approving me. Here’s my setup.
5x5 tent is upstairs in moms apartment in the spare bedroom. (When I asked to use it for this suddenly it was supposed to be her sewing room)…but I can have it. 🙄
8†fan with full speed control, carbon filter, & silencer
PhotonTek X600 Pro full spectrum LED (bought originally for the lower power draw even though above stated budget). I know they’re buying me the controller for Christmas because we aren’t surprise type folk.
I have 3 Bruce Banner, 3 Gorilla Glue, and 1 Girl Scout Cookie. They of course broke soil on different days but they’re 4 weeks old tomorrow.
I’m using Vermont Compost Jolly Roger living soil. Right now they’re in 3gal containers which is too small for a full living soil grow with full benefit. Even the 7gals they’re going into are too small. For the future, it will be 4 30gal pots. 4 plants a cycle. I’m not sure what to do here because I have seven of them and I’m not willing to sacrifice anyone. I don’t have that in me yet. I know it will come with experience. So, I’ll probably end up trying to do it in the 7 gals which may present a headache I won’t know how to deal with but I didn’t kill anyone on purpose..lol. I will now also have you all. I had researched just enough to be dangerous. I learned after of course. This is the way I plan to go though so I just have to get through it, amend and fix any soil that needs it after and move forward. Like, they’ll only be in the 3gals a month. How bad can it get? It’s the 10 weeks in the 7’s that worry me. (See, here I go again with the talking). It’s kind of cool to get it out because literally no one in my circle wants to hear it. No interest. Even the ones who will benefit (looking at you mom). I see the eye rolls and hear the bored tone haha. Literally everything I’m saying is fascinating and sometimes I’m just looking for help working out something that I’ve gotten differing info on. Mom says, why are you asking me, I have no idea… you don’t? Whats with all these flower beds, pots, planters in the spring and summer? The sunflower patch? The wildflower garden? The fall porch plants? Is that elves?
I’ve gotten this far and I can do it again…. 😉
