Plant problems

I’m a first time grower. I’m using a 3x3’ AC Infinity tent. My plants are looking burned. I had the light, that came with the tent, about 18” from the tops of the seedlings. I raised the light to about 24”. Can someone tell me what’s wrong with my plants from the attached pictures? Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard @jwmvh. What is the grow medium? What are you feeding if anything? How often have you been watering? How old are your sprouts? At the bottom right hand side of this page there's a menu called Growing Basics. If you haven't already, I'd highly suggest you take a look at the info there.

Test the soil temperature,I think they're being burnt from the bottom, what is your light set at, turn it down if it's over 25% power

Photo plants or auto flowers,if they're auto flowers your done, start with photo plants, much more forgiving when you make a oops

The growing medium is about 50% coco coir, 30% perlite, and 20% earthworm castings. They’re photo period. The sprouts are 2 weeks old. I’ll read growing basics. What growing medium is best? Thanks everyone!

I'll make a guess that 20% worm castings is too hot for the seedlings.
Possibly a grow medium choice error.
I'd start over with straight 70/30 or 50/50 c/p, GH Flora Trio. Please read Growing Basics under Quick Links below before restarting. pH measurement is necessary.

If I was starting from scratch I'd go 70/30 coco/perlite with the GH trio or something similar. I use CX horticulture nutrients.

Coco is very forgiving. It's almost impossible to overwater.

Don't give up. Being photo plants you can nurse them back to health. In fact, I'd transplant them to new medium w/o the worm castings.

If you stick with coco you'll need a PH pen. You don't have to break the bank but get something reliable. If the budget won't allow a pen try some PH strips. PH will be the most critical measurement you will take. Of the most common causes of MJ plant issues improper PH is at or near the top of the list.

I'm with Gator. Starting with soil would be my choice for a beginner. Get the basics down then branch out from there. After you get a couple grows under your belt you can start to experiment more to find your style. It's a slow learning process so be very patient.

I respect all our senior growers and their recommendations. I still like coco/perlite. Absolute TOTAL control over the grow: nutes, moisture, pH, quick response to adjustments, no pests. Why? Why would a newer grower want to introduce uncontrolled variables to cause problems? Keep it simple.

I respect you also Allotrope my friend! I have never tried your method of growing, and I imagine you have grown in soil, like me. You can make a better judgement call for sure! I use what I call a hybrid soil mix, maybe close to hydroponic and I consider it simple

I went to the Indoor Garden shop here in town right after we voted and bought some 70/30 coco/perlite mix that has already been washed to remove the salt. I just started more seeds yesterday in moist paper towels and also bought a moisture/PH reader. I’m starting again and I won’t give up. I really appreciate all the comments and recommendations from all the people in the thread. Many thanks! I’ll be 70 next month and have been using cannabis since 1973. Back when you bought a ‘lid’. A lot has changed over all the years!

Hey Allotrope. Since you have tried both methods of growing and probably more like most of us have, would you say your current method gives you better yields and bud quality after harvest than growing in soil. Or is the journey to harvest just easier or both?

Well to gwe! Lots of great information, knowledge and wonderful people on this site. Keep working it you’ll get it. I’ve been growing weed only for 3 years. When our state made it legal I decided to try again.. pretty much gave up weed in the early 90’s. Started getting serious about my career and raising a family so my wife and I gave it up didn’t want to risk getting caught back then had too much to lose. Fast forward 30 some odd years got my permit to grow through the state and now have more weed then I really need.
Decided to go the legal route have to pay 100$ every year to renew my rec, permit but small price to pay to grow without fear of the local law hauling me off .
