Hello all. Chipmunk here. I have an auto flower question. I am a beginner when it comes to growing autos. I am growing indica dominant autos in a tent and in a mostly soil based medium. I was wondering when you all see the fade begin? My plants seem to fade earlier than the time frame I read online. I usually get a 10 degree drop in temp when lights go out. 79 deg for the high and 69 deg for the lows. The ph runoff @6.2-6.3. I do feed ca/mg. The reason I mention is because the fall like appearance of the fading leaves have purplish tints on the stems and leaf margins including the tips. The leaves look healthy, not brown and crispy. Hello golfnrl. Chipmunk here. Great skills on your 42oz grow! How big was your grow space? It would sure take me a long time to smoke that much ganja. I wouldn't like much down time for my garden because I just like growing. With that said a garden that is always going and 42 ozs a grow equals a mind-blowing amount of ganja for me Great job! I started out wanting to grow just 1 good plant before I went for quantity. It doesn't matter which road we take to get there as long as we get there

That grow space was the 4'x'4x7'11" tent. Two plants filled the tent. I had no idea they were producing that much. I'm kinda like you. I don't like much down time either between grows. A while back I became interested in landrace sativas. That's when I realized, at least for me, that quality would serve me better than quantity. So I cut the number of plants I grow at a time to two in each tent. I do one for autos and the other one for the photo period sativas.
Chipmuk here. After this auto flower grow, I have a couple more beans to play with. I imagine after that I will say goodbye to autos. They are past my pay grade. I will just stick with growing what I know, the photo period plants. I did learn some things from the grows that I think made me a better grower! Not a complete bust

The colder nights can contribute to a change in leaf colour.
Ideally you probably should be a few degrees lower of a day mid to late flower and night temps are fine, maybe 1 or 2 below ideal.
Your temps are not bad though. You should still be getting great results.
But temps have to be read in conjunction with RH. What are you seeing?

I'm just doing feminized seeds for my lgm. I thought about Autoflower but decided against it due to the lower yields. But it is a lot of trial and error

I think the Autos are really good idea if you're in a constrained time and you want everything done quickly. Is there an issue with getting male plants whenever you have autos? I just know with ilgm when you order feminized seeds you get female plants every time. I haven't had one fail yet. Every single seat I have ever germinated from them grows as well. My stretching plants are no longer stretching instead they are just straight up growing. I don't know how I'm going to grow two plants in a 2x2 but I'm going to figure it out

Hello Con420grow. This is Chipmunk. I'm not constrained for time or space. I just wanted to see what all the hubbub was about w/autos. I got some freebies from Herbies, so I give them a shot. I think Herbies has changed since they have a hub here in the states now. I do like Pyramid and Blimburn beans. I'm just fond of the Netherland and Spanish genetics. They have been doing it awhile! When the states cracked down on ganja a lot of the good growers took their plants a that's where they went. The only male plants I have ever grown was way back in the day. They were 10ft tall and cut down w/a chainsaw, ah the good old days! Sorry to confuse you I do it to myself a lot! If Nebula can get a big grow from a 2x2 then so can you!

From a plant science perspective, the photoperiod vs. autoflower grow decision is based on numerous criteria, many environmental, some personal preference.
Allow this old baby boomer, master gardener, to toss out his two cents worth. Note: both grows strictly adhere to Arizona recreational cannabis cultivation statutes!
- I do not grow indoors. I grow in: 1) an outdoors summer garden, in a well amended, pH corrected, vegetable garden plot, and 2) a winter grow in a 10' x 20' x 6.5' polytunnel greenhouse using 50/50 coco/perlite in fabric pots.
- Summer. I live in the Arizona Sonoran desert where high summer heat (20 - 30 days over 110°F) and low humidity (<10% common) present growing challenges that can be overcome. I grow both heavy sativa photos, for their genetic ability to handle heat stress and grow big for big yields, 7 to 8 months seed to harvest, and hybrid autos for a quick harvest. The autos I have tried can generally take the heat. Only downside is the heat can volitalize off the terpenes and occasionally force some foxtails. Once planted, and doing some topping (photos) I simply water, fertilize and wait for harvest time. Real low maintenance!
- Winter. It very rarely freezes here in the winter. I maintain greenhouse temps between 65°F - 85°F with a couple of box store electric space heaters. The key here is growing autoflowers exclusively. With less than 12 hours of winter daylight, small photo seedlings would flower immediately without much vegetative growth. Not an issue with the autos. I like the XXL auto varieties because of size and yield. The lower levels of natural light add 3 to 4 weeks to seed vendors finishing times, but the buds are dense and fragrant. This setup requires much more maintenance, like daily watering, mixing nutes and monitoring greenhouse temps.
My choice of photos vs. autos really depends on the conditions I will encounter during the grow cycle. Indoor growers will have different conditions to consider. Rambled a bit. Regards.
