Black Ash

My latest grow (Durban Poison Auto) dried for 10 days and has been curing (in C-Vaults) for 16 days. I checked it last night by rolling a joint (actually 2) and it wouldn't stay lit and the ash was black. The RH is 60%. I did everything the same as my previous grows. Can I do anything to save the harvest, if so, what? Or should I just count it as a loss and make concentrates and edibles with it? Any ideas as to the cause of the black ash?

Smoke it in a bowl. I don't do joints but friends have said to roll loose ones if the bud doesn't burn too well.
I've had similar situations. The bud clogs up the grinder and doesn't stay lit. You just have to work with it or look to concentrates, as you mentioned.
When I get black ash it's because it still has some burning to do.

So true, gray ash is fully burned, otherwise still combustibles to burn off. VFD info, kind of like A vs V burn patterns.

16 days is not that long in cure. I wait 30 days after an 10-14 day dry at 60/60. 3-6 months is ideal in my opinion but ya gotta have weed in the mean time. It’s definitely not time to scrap it be patient.
Burp the jars every couple days hold it between 55&62/% and give it some time.
The black/grey ash thing I think has been largely debunked at this point, not staying lit is a drag but I’ve had that problem in the past and just smoked through it

I generally smoke a bowl or 2 as soon as it dries just because I like the taste of green weed then I let it cure for several weeks and when I smoke the cured weed I go for the taste and effect I get out of it. I dont give a damn if the ash grey, black or green I will leave that to the champion breeders to worry about

Agree on both. I enjoy the fresh stuff too weather it burns well of not. It’s like a “chefs treat” as super fresh weed can only be had close to the source😎

i do the same. sample a bit and then cure it for about a month longer

I’ve had jars do that around the 2–3 week cure mark, especially if the outside feels dry but the inside of the bud is still holding moisture. Joints are the first thing to show it since they need an even burn, so it’ll canoe, go out, and leave that dark ash. I wouldn’t call it a loss at all. I usually keep burping, and if it’s sitting at 60% I’ll even let it drift a touch lower (like 58ish) and give it another couple weeks. Also try grinding a bit finer and rolling a little looser, or just smoke it in a bowl for now.
