what is the best 600watt hps bulb to use?

I bet you will get many opinions on this topic. I don't know about the BEST but I use a little known and off name brand called Solis Tek. So far this bulb has done its job for me during TWO grows (so far). I am replacing my grow bulb every THREE GROWS I understand although the "bulb" still works, its usefulness for growing diminishes with use. I still keep the used bulb though, you never know when you may need a emergency stand in bulb. PLEASE REMEMBER to always dispose your burned out bulbs responsibly! (I toss mine in the local police dumpster)

I have got 3 grows on my HPS, so it is surely loosing power. I use the Horitlux for both MH and HPS but it might be better to use cheaper bulbs and change them more often. Just say'n.

I use a 600watt Hortilux with enhanced spectrum, this is one superior bright light!
If you have an adjustable ballast you can run it at 50 or 75% and you could use it even longer.. I use it in a cool tube and have no heat issues inside a 4x4 gorilla.
Yes it is a little on the pricey side but you can easily get 5 flower cycles out of it. I figure one a year is totally worth it when you harvest 6+ lbs in a year.
Sooo.....When compared to other lamps, you definitely get what you pay for!

Check YouTube, there's tons of 'bulb tests' that compare different brands, wattages, types (MH, HPS, T5, LED, LEC, etc). It does seem that the 600W single-ended bulbs (MH and/or HPS) seem to be pretty hard to beat in terms of overall performance. Generally, the minuscule difference in performance of different brands of similar bulbs would hardly be noticeable by the end user. I'm using Solis Tek bulbs with a Solis Tek ballast; I believe that it is important to stay brand 'loyal' to ensure utmost compatibility. If I was to change anything I would change to 1000W bulbs; I did use a T5 6500K two-foot four-bulb lamp for germinating, it worked great.
