Since I really don't know what I'm doing, this will probably be the first of many questions.
Why is my plant growing like this and is this normal? It was given to me 3-4 weeks ago and has about doubled in size. I've repotted it in a larger pot, but the stem/stalk looks funny. Almost like it was grafted together. And it seems very weak. It was growing like this when I got it, so it was like this before repotting. Should I cover the lower section with soil?

You can cover the stem up to the first set of leaves with no problem. The buried stem will just produce more roots. However, this plant is on a fast train to Nowheresville. It is already beginning to flower. You may, with proper treatment obtain one small bud but that's it. I suggest you read https://www.growweedeasy.com/link-guide-growing-cannabis to learn how to do this properly. It is not an easy process to learn but very rewarding once you do,
 
As said add soil, also whats the PH? Is it an auto or a photo? Light source? (outside girl?) Sorry I have nothing but questions.

With that being said, is it really worth investing anymore time, effort & money into this one plant? So far it's cost me nothing but a little time. I read that part of the problem with it flowering so soon is improper lighting; not getting enough sunlight & too long in the dark. It also said that you can "shock" the plant by using a grow light and exposing it to up to 20 hours of light a day for a period of time. The plant has been outside and I was going to bring it in and invest in a grow light, but is it really worth it?

First off if you really want to learn start investing in the plants. No in my view this current plant experiment would not be worth putting more money into it. Be honest with yourself do you really want to grow your own weed? Those of us who do spend time alot of time, put money towards tents and good lights to grow our best homegrown weed. It could take you a few grows if you really did want to learn and perhaps a year or so of doing those grows. You decide
 
Like she said IF you want to grow on you'll be buying lots of new toys. Is "this plant" worth spending money on, no, but the light (do lots of research before you buy) would be something you would use over and over then buy a better one. I know several folks that tried their hand at growing, did not do so well (and dont listen) and have decided to purchase all off their weed. Like she said. you decide. Myself I grow mostly outside as I can produce more than I need and toss what I dont use. I do some indoor mostly to produce my own seed/strains/hybrids.
