    Is this guy salvageable?

So this Papaya seed finally emerged from a Rapid Rooter two weeks after planting. The husk was pretty firmly attached so I let it chill out awhile under a cfl. I've got in my tent now with all its brothers and sisters, under MH dimmed to 500w. Do you think its still viable? Thanks for your input!

two weeks since planting after it sprouted, or two weeks since you put the seed in the rapid rooter?

Sorry, we planted it in the RR 4/23 and it popped up two weeks later, on 5/7.

It hasn't been out of the ground that long then so it should recover, might just be going a bit slow since it looks like one cotyledon has died but once the leaves start growing it should be fine.

If it ain't dead, it's salvagable. Use a dropper and put a drop of water on the husk a few times. It will soften and fall off. 2 weeks is a frickin long time, I would have tossed it. Good call on letting her ride!
Nothing is foolproof for the sufficiently talented fool.

Ha! That's a good theory, Dingus! Sorry I wasn't very clear...the husk fell off Monday or Tuesday. To me it looks like one half of the cotyledon is missing, i.e. there is only one of two leaves present. Unless the little white leaf is the other half? Dunno.
Probably the only reason we gave it the time it needed was because we had other Rooters working on sprouting veggies. I'm really hoping it lives, but we have three other plants growing strong (so far).

That's crazy: I just posted a picture of a sproutling with a broken cotyledon too, just this morning! But looking more closely at your picture, I think you're right. The cotyledons are just different sizes. The growth tip looks unharmed, that's good.

Yep. I've had no cotyledons at all and still survived

Update! Thanks for your advice, OzBud and DingusKhan! This Papaya is one week old today. Like Oz said, I think it's a little slow to grow. It'll be cool to see it really take off in the next few weeks. Thanks again!

you're welcome. Once it gets a few sets of leaves it'll take off. Don't forget to transplant when the leaves almost reach the edge of the cup
