Doctor persimilis and mr mite
I'm not new to the mites problem, and I have read just about every guide you can find on the internet on this gruesome subject (the tutorial provided on this site sums up all the important stuff).
however, it's my 3rd grow with these unwanted guests and I still can't get rid of them...
the little bastards manage to make a come back every time, always at the start of the second half of flowering, thus making any drastic countermeasure risky and toxic (I don't want any chemicals or unwanted flavourings in my herb).
So I'm fighting them with biological warfare, by introducing into the grow tent Phitoseius Persimilis, a predatory mite specialised in spider mites. It's slow -it takes two weeks for the predator to adapt and start the genocide- but very effective at keeping them under control. I have tried several washes and infusions, but they all affect taste if applied on buds without flushing the plant adequately for at least 3 weeks. ( neem oil, pyrethrum, pepper or tobacco infusions etc). The pepper herb had some appreciation from a few of my friends who thought it was the strain's flavour 😂, but generally I highly recommend not to spray anything but water on the leaves during the last few weeks...
Nothing I have tried really eradicated them, but I became quite good at controlling them, especially at keeping them off my precious buds. Key is high humidity/ breezy colas/ and if they become persistent lower heat and bring light time to 10 hrs... that makes it almost impossible for them to reproduce and colonise.
And this is where I am now... 4 weeks left of flowering, lovely tangie and fighting Buddha colas growing, and those red two spotted little pests starting to build an army in the lower, darker canopy...And here I go again with persimilis, high humidity, breezy environment....
I'll finish this grow without taking any new countermeasures, but I will go heavy on them as soon as the room is empty. Azamax or similar products is what I will go for...
