    Ph question

This is my first grow. I'm in my 5th week of veg with my 4' by 2' ebb & flo system. Using 600 watt MH. Growing Lemon OG Haze and they look fantastic. Ph has generally been going up every couple of days and I just ph it down to 5.8. I noticed that now my ph is going down from 5.8 to 5.6. Of course I immediately added ph up. Is this normal? I manually check ph daily and try my best to maintain between 5.8 and 6.0.

Hi houseof, welcome to the forum!!!

I grow hydroponically, and I keep my pH between 5.6 and 6.4. I check my pH every day, and it sounds to me like you have the pH going well, but pH fluctuation is normal, and actually good for the roots, because they absorb different nutes better at different pH levels. As long as you stay within 5.5-6.5, your plants are happy. Go over to GWE site (if you haven't already) and look up hydroponics pH.

Would love to see some pics of your girls!!!

My tap water is always 6-7, so I adjust down to 5.5 or so to use in my Water Farm. I over oxygenate (for the benefits) which results in the pH ranging up Which is good. When I replenish H2O between feedings (usually 2-3 times a day,.5 to 1 gallon a day in late veg and flower) I test the nutrients, then adjust the water to take it in the desired direction. GH prints a chart online that shows which nutrients are absorbed at what pH. Ranging from 5.5 to 6.5 is good according to this chart. If you peg it into too narrow a range you risk some nutrients not being absorbed.
I've had pH range from 5.5 to 6.5 in 3-4 hours in late flower. That's why I test 3-4 times a day and adjust.
Which is all fun. Its a science project with benefits.

I learned to resist the urge to constantly adjust my solution. I replace my solution every two weeks and I will let it drift between the limits-pH has to fluctuate to allow all of the nutrients to be available to the plant. Relax-this is supposed to be fun...
      WHAT???

I was trying the hands off approach early on and was seeing high pH for too long. I had failed to neutralize the clay balls prior to set up, so the solution was trending dangerously high. 7 to 8+. I change nutes every 5-6 days, not the recommended 10-14. The first grow was from Jan 7 to April 3 from clones.
Messing with the set up gives me an excuse to take a short break from my other wise intense studio work.
The results were worth the effort. The worst part so far is my friends are upset because of the comparison between what they buy and what I grow.
