    Heater glow during dark period

    Hey all,
Today my girls began their flower cycle and after the lights went out I went in the tent to make sure there wasn't any light leaking in. After my eyes adjusted I noticed my heater is putting off a faint orange glow. Im curious if anyone else has dealt with this issue, if you think it could affect flowering, and ideas on solving the problem.

I think tomorrow I'm going to move the heater outside of the tent , put a fan behind it to give it more oomph and use some ducting to blow the heat in, which should eliminate the problem. Any other ideas?

    Hey Marley,
I had this problem came back in the a.m. and had a orange glow. I used black electrical tape and blue painters tape to cover up the light, in the end I couldn't stop all the light leeking out of the heaters case and after three nights I move it out of the box and blame it for a hermie.
    good luck.

Let me clarify the use of tape I only put it on the LED not over the heater element itself I would not recommend it.

I did the same thing; covered all the LEDs. So when I first saw the glow I thought it just needed more tape, then I realized it was the heating elements.

Marley how cold does it get in your tent? I have a huge swing in my tent I know the plants are not supposed to like it but they dont seem too in mine the only side effect ive had is purple buds once. my tent gets up to 75 during day and down to 50 at night during winter(thank god thats over still have snow in yard lol). I have a 8'x5'x7'high tent that I spit in half .I veg in one side and bloom in other so I think the plants adapt to the cooler temps. but if you read about it the girls can and sometimes do go to foxtail(go back into veg) with any light seepage as little as one candle power so In my openion its better to let them get cool at night with no light rather than a little light from the heater. Covering an open source of flame with tape is only making a fire hazard and we all have enough of those hope this helps

It would probably get into the 60's without the heater. Right now I'm able to maintain a constant 75 in the day and 73 at night. I'm going to move the heater out and use some ducting and see how that works. The next step will be a radiant heater.

I believe I solved the problem. I'll check this evening when the lights are out but I can't imagine the glow will make it into the tent now. Here's what I did:

I used an HVAC register big enough to fit my heater in, followed by an inline fan to pump the heat through some 6" ducting into the tent.

Here you can see the ducting going into the middle of the tent.

This actually worked out well, because I was having some issues cooling the tent after switching to HPS's for flower and bumping it up to 750w. Now I have that inline fan running 24/7, so when the lights are on it's bringing in fresh cool air into the tent and when the lights go out and the heater kicks on it will bring in the warm air.
