When do buds fatten the most?

Hi, I'm approaching week 6 of flower, Friday. I'm just wondering when the biggest push will be for buds fattening up. They are filling in nicely, white hairs are starting to curl but still all white. Also, do they need more fan leaves removed? I've been trimming a lot over the the last week to expose bud sites, but want to leave enough leaves to see them thru till th end. I've read about defoiliating in flower on the site and as this is my first grow, just want to error on the side of safety. Thanks
also, I have too many plants in one place, but gotta ride it out now!

GWE cautions against harvesting too soon because buds put on more weight the last couple of weeks of flower. Do you have a loupe or microscope to check trichomes? That is the gold standard for telling when plants are ready for harvest.
      DIY grow space 2.5' X 3.5' X 6.5'
      315 LEC
6" Vortex exhaust fan w/speed control
      6" Carbon filter
      3- 6" fans
      humidifier
      temp and humidity gauge
5 gal smart pots w/ FFOF soil
      FF trio nutrients

I found that worked best as well, I had bought a 60x microscope off Amazon but I've had much better luck with binoculars turned backwards.

Think I might get the microscope that hooks up to lab top., but not sure yet.

That seems to be the best and easiest to use but being a cheap SOB I don't want to spend that much money. Gonna spend my money on upgrading lights! 😃

Real nice grow if ur scared to defole. Then I would sugest to defole 1 plant out of the bunch and do the test ur self. I defol my girls right up to the last week and all the way through the grow. When u defol in bud it takes the energy that leave was getting and put it on the bud instead, equals stronger bigger buds. Basicly just cut the leaves that do not get light as there just useing energy and not replaceing it/makeing any. U will notice ur buds will fatten up if u do this

Would say 250ml for each plant 100% milk?

I've defoiliated again, not a lot of fan leaves left but lots of sugar leaves, do they act like fan leaves? Also, I added some milk to the ones soil. But, we also also had some whey, which also came from previous milk. It's good for other plants so I put about 250ml in each.

I`ve found the old saying of wait another week when you believe they`re ready to be really true....often we really want to start harvesting but that extra week above what we feel just hammers out the last potential in my experience but man, you have to be disciplined Good question

Makes total sense, I know when I waited the extra week in veg, (42 days) it was well worth it!

      Hi Chowder,

I like that you try to mimic nature, and it's usually the right way to follow. But, in nature what is weed for??? I don't know? If it's for some critter to feed on, well is it leaves or buds or seeds? For my purpose it's for smoking Buds, and if using milk and defoliating and other techniques give me big and multiple buds, I'm all for it. :>)
